For some no nonsense burgers and fries, The Shack is the spot to be. Couple this with a fantastic location where you can sit just feet from the blue waters of the Hawaii Kai Marina and gaze upon Koko Head Crater and you've got a fun, casual place to hang out. The portions are generous and tasty. My favorites consist of the patty melt, tuna melt, ortega burger, and guacamole burger. I've not reviewed their selection of adult beverages, but with a full bar no doubt all the required brews can be had. Lunch has never been crowded and the service is pretty fast. For sports fans, your game of choice is probably well presented on game days.
-- Parking is part of the Hawaii Kai Town Center shopping complex right in front.

First off there are four Shacks on Oahu: Hawaii Kai, Waikiki, Kailua and Mililani. In that order is which one I would go to first. I have been to all of them, but the one in Hawaii Kai is my kind of laid back style. The one in Waikiki is only inside, sorta dark, is usually packed, loud, much larger then the other Shacks and has live bands. For me it's just too much. As for Kailua and Mililani they are the quietest of the four and very chill with Water mists out side to keep you cool on the deck because there are no breezes like the one in Hawaii Kai. I have never really seen it that busy in Kailua or Mililani. Only the Hawaii Kai one is on the water on the Marina with some good trade winds going right through the bar. All have the same level of service and Food quality. It's pretty much a question of which location you prefer or which one you are closest to...for me that's Hawaii Kai and because it's on the water and you can sit outside on the marina this one is #1 for me!
THE SHACK in Hawaii Kai...My second home...The closest walk I have ever taken to get to a Kick Ass Bar, put down a huge amount of $3 drafts during happy hour and walk home drunk 3 hours later. Those walks are always the most interesting 150 feet I have ever taken...lol. This place reminds me exactly of a Shack or Tiki Hut. It's a seriously laid back dive bar at the back of the Hawaii Kai Marina. Locals talk story, watch Football, UCF Fights, play Darts and Pool. It's your typical Dive Bar that happens to look like a little grass shack that kicks ass. Sitting out side on the Marina putting back Thirsty Thursdays $2 drafts during happy Hour and $2 Fish Tacos is where it's at...The simple things in life all at a Poor Man's budget...IT'S ALL GOOD BY ME! Happy Hour is 4-6 EVERY DAY and there are food discounts every day as well so ask!
I never seem to stay inside the bar unless I'm watching the UFC Fights, which you will find me here every time there is an event. I always head outside to the back and enjoy a table on the water. If it's a bright sunny day however, sitting on the water may sounds like a great idea but I'll be the first to tell you it can get hot as hell out there so just be ready for that and a possible move into a shady area...lol
I don't really have anything negative to say about the Shake...it's what you expect from...well...a Shack. You know what...I like it. The food is ok, the service is ok, the beers are ok...SO WHAT!!!!! This isn't a 5 star pub...You get what you pay for and everything on the Menu I have tried has been pretty good.
When I order I enjoy the Bowl O'Chili, The Zukes, Buffalo Wings, The Tuna Melt, The Turkey Club and The Fresh Grilled Fish Sandwich (sometimes Ahi, Mahi or what ever they have for the day) is always tops on my list and you should try it. All the Salads I enjoy as well.
BURGERS ARE AWESOME HERE! The way you can get your BURGER is ENDLESS! If meat isn't your thing you can get a CHICKEN BURGER as well!
Everything you would expect from a good bar menu is here. The wait staff are all women here and I must say most are attractive and tattooed. They always smile and look like they really enjoying what they do. They are all down to earth and cool girls and treat the customers well. I come here a few times a week and go back and forth from this place to The Kona Brewing Co...I have even walked home for the Kona Brewing Co and stopped at the Shack for a few more Beers and some Curly fries which FRIGGIN ROCK from the Shack. Hey, life is good in Paradise and this place reminds me why I left the hustle and bustle of Boston all those many years ago...This Lifestyle is for me...
