This is the best spot in the city for traditional Indian and Pakistani food. Don't be frightened by the lack of upscale decor, because Shalomar has some of the best Pakistani food this side of the Hindu Kush. Try anything from the Tandoor oven -- it's all good -- but I especially love and recommend the lamb chops. It's also worth noting that this restaurant is BYOB.Recommended for:

Yum! It took me a long time to finally come to the must-talked-about Shalimar. This casual Indian restaurant offers a number of great curry dishes, big pieces of freshly made naan and delicious seasoned rice. Try the paneer curry with spinach.Recommended for:

This place has a cult following especially among vegetarians. Shalimar is a unique experience. The place is austere, the food is spicy, the kitchen is bustling, with a constant whir of frying pans and chatter of orders. For me the food doesn't live up to the hype, but I find the overall experience unique and worth trying.Recommended for:

This is definitely some of the best Pakistani/Indian food I have tasted. I like how they give each table a pitcher of water, because they know you'll keep on needing a refill. My friend ordered for us - we got the beef shish kabob, chicken jalfrezi and aloo methi (potato with mustard greens), rice and 2 pieces of naan to share amongst 3 people. Everything was so delicious and it only came out to $8 per person. Get the chicken jalfrezi, it's so spicy and so good!

Shamilar, which also specializes in Indian & Pakistani cuisine like Pakwan, is a bit richer than Pakwan - but I personally love it! The nan here is super thick and chewy, very delicious. They have plenty of specials that are only $6-$9 (sometimes, part of their "daily" specials). One of their famous dishes is the Goat Karahi, which is actually very delicious.
