    Jade Buddha Temple

170 Anyuan Road, Shanghai, 31 China
    13 reviews

The Jade Buddha Temple is one of the more revered temples in Shanghai due to the Jade Buddha that is housed here. The Buddha was brought back from a pilgrimage to Burma and then the temple was built to house the Buddha, so goes the legend of the temple. The temple is quite small, but still has room for all ...

    NanJing Road

Nan Jing Road, Shanghai, 31 220000 China
    47 reviews

Packed with retailers, this is where the Shanghainese come to shop. Neon lights, concrete, and some people watching. I find it less pleasant than other areas but no doubt it is an important artery for the city.

    The Bund

    161号 长乐路, Luwan, Shanghai, China

remarkable spot for a nice walk, offering the contrast of the "old" and "new" Shanghai. Beautiful views @ night of river front... =) Crossing the street, a walk back along the boardwalk offers a different view of the old colonial buildings, and a great view of modern Shanghai and the newer skyscrapers of Pudong, including the famous and unique Oriental ...

This somewhat Disney-esque area has a nice mix of cafes, bars, restaurants, and shops. One of the more pleasant areas to stroll and enjoy without having to worry about traffic.

    French Concession

    中国上海市卢湾区, Jianguo Middle Rd,
    29 reviews

The French Concession struggles to hang on to a bit of Shanghai's old world charm. The combination of nice architecture and a greenery makes this one of the more attractive parts of the city. Definitely a must-see on the tourist circuit.

    Shanghai Museum

201号 Renmin Avenue, Huangpu, Shanghai, China
    28 reviews

Had a nice gift shop but the museum itself quickly gets tedious. I can only handle so much pottery / ceramics in one day. Worth visiting but only if you have a lot of patience.

    Shanghai World Financial Center

    Century Avenue, Shanghai, China
    23 reviews

On a good day (decent weather) you get the best view of Shanghai including the Bond, the city centre and the TV tower. It is not cheap, but it is worth it and something you ought to do if you are in Shanghai for the first time for 3-4-5 days. This is currently the highest building in Shanghai, but that ...

    People's Square

    Wusheng Road, Huangpu, Shanghai, China

An important shopping and business center -- think of it is Times Square for Shanghai. Interesting people watching with a lot of activity but not particularly picturesque.

24th floor, No. 318 Fuzhou Rd., Shanghai, Huangpu District, China
    19 reviews

M1NT lives up to it's billing as one of Shanghai's trendiest and best restaurants. The setting is gorgeous, the food and service are excellent and the views are great. I was there with a big group and everyone raved about their dishes. The service (even for such a big table) was really good - we had more than one person ...

    Shanghai Ocean Aquarium

No. 1388 Lujiazui Ring Lu, Luzhou, 51 6460 China
    15 reviews

Wow, I was very surprised at how cool this aquarium was. It was big! It had tons of cool fish. It had a very long tunnel underwater. And yes, it had jellyfish, always my favorite. I have to laugh at the slow paced moving sidewalk though, it barely moved. It was great though and I really enjoyed the break from ...

静安寺, Nanjing Road (West), Jing'an, Shanghai, China

Attractive temple which contrasts sharply against the surrounding modernity. Unlikely to impress you if you've spent a lot of time in Asia but still a nice spot.

    Jin Mao Tower

2号 Century Avenue, Pudong, Shanghai, China

Lovely modern tower with great views of the city. The resident Grand Hyatt is no longer the highest hotel in the world but it still makes for a nice pit stop if you are in this part of the city.

    Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall

    100, Renmin Avenue, Shanghai, 31 2000 China
    13 reviews

As an urban planner I really enjoyed a short visit to the Exhibition Hall - although I'm not sure the average visitor to China would enjoy it as much as I did. The huge scale model of the city is almost worth the price of admission, but it may be the only part of the exhibit that is really and ...

    Bund Sightseeing Tunnel

中山东一路外滩351, Zhongshan East 1st Road, Huangpu, Shanghai, China
    16 reviews

This is basically an underground cable car ride through a tunnel that crosses the Bund. The tunnel has a bunch of neon lights in it that are supposed to dazzle the rider. All in all, it's super pricey and just a slow ride through a bad light show. Not worth it!
