A great way to get a closer look and better perspective on Shanghai - whether you're just visiting or live there. I took my visiting parents on two private walking tours with Shanghai Pathways: the first of the French Concession and the second of the backstreets of Shanghai. Both were fantastic. Guide Janny is very knowledgeable and was able to provide articulate answers to all our questions regarding everything we saw as well as about the history of Shanghai. She understood not just what we wanted to get out of the tours, but was also very sensitive to my parents speed and hearing needs and accommodated us throughout.
The tour of the French Concession included visits to the Museum of the First National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party as well as to the home of Zhou Enlai (the PRC's First Premier) which we all enjoyed and my father, the history buff, loved. The tour also included Fuxing Park and many quaint French Concession streets and ended in Taikang Lu.
The tour of the Shanghai backstreets was particularly eye-opening. Janny arranged to have us visit the home of an 80+ year old woman and translated as the woman told us about how she and her family had lived there over the years. We toured several different neighborhoods and got a great perspective on how people did and still do live there.
