The single poshest hotel in the Rocks, the design sensibility of the luxe Shangri-La brand shows throughout this hotel. I love the touches of dark wood and the cherry-blossoms pattern on the carpets, and the views from the higher floors are spectacular. The 5-star restaurant, Altitude, is only open for dinner, but it's a great place to go for a sundowner even if you don't have a full meal here. The day-spa is meltingly relaxing, and I even saw Michael Cera in the lobby here. Highly recommended.Recommended for:Luxury Travelers

With possibly the most expensive hotel car parking in Sydney, at $60.50 per day, it’s clear that this place is geared for the luxury traveler. The hotel is located more or less next to the freeway, but once inside, the hum of the traffic is nowhere to be heard. If you want a really special stay, I recommend level 36, where the Blu Bar and Altitude restaurant offer a fine dining and drinking experience - with spectacular views of course. For something a little less formal, aka, the usual hotel-style dining and lounge setup, the lobby lounge and 1st floor café are open day and night. There is a 24-hour gym, large stylish indoor pool with adjoining outdoor terrace and even a hair salon. The day spa is an utterly inviting space; styled in warm earthy orange hues, it resembles something akin to decadent chocolate-orange mud cake. Despite the size of this hotel - over 500 rooms and suites – the attention to detail in the accommodation, and the warm service from the staff, makes for a more-personalised stay.

This hotel used to be called the ANA. It's right down in the CBD and very close to The Rocks, Circular Quay etc. in downtown Sydney. Tall tower, great view. Ask for a high room. You can look out over the harbor and watch the lights of the city come on as the sun goes down. Very romantic.
