I am really fond of Shangri-La Hotels and their branches around the world. Not that I partake of all the amenities that they have to offer. I go to a city to experience the city, and as much as I would love to check out everything this Shang had to offer, my time was short and the city beckoned to me.
Fortunately for me this establishment was close to most near everything. I always enjoyed a good walk anyhow and I find that it always gives me a good view of the area. Most importantly the staff was responsive and set me up with a tour of the Great Barrier Reef.. which both my sister and I enjoyed immensely.
Good thing I had my scuba license in hand.

We had a lovely room overlooking the water - great views, it was really spacious and well appointed. The price was good (we booked via lastminute though). The staff where super friendly, like some of the nicest & friendliest faces I have dealt with in the service sector.
The only criticism I can give it, is that it is need of a renovation. The lobby has been renovated and looks amazing, but everything else - particularity the pool area (which was quite disappointing) needs to be brought up to the same standards as the lobby. It dates the hotel considerably - and was kinda shocking.
