- Sheraton HotelFirst to ReviewJul 05, 2012
With 1010 rooms, a behemonth lobby, and a $44 million renovation underway, the Sheraton on Canal Street is a Big Cheese in the world of New Orleans hotels. As soon as you walk into the sprawling lobby and see the cocktail lounge in the middle, a lovely scent wafts your way, and stays with you throughout your visit. It’s all part of a branding effort to get you to associate the hotel with pleasant things. And it works! When a well-oiled machine works, it works, and the Sheraton, as part of a chain, is no exception. Uniformly, the elevators are nice, the rooms are nice and clean, and the staff is friendly. If you’re looking for a quirky New Orleans experience, this is definitely not it, but could work as a balm to the wildness of the city. Take note, if you’re thinking of booking within the next few months: their renovation means that the pool and large fitness center are out of commission, although a small fitness center is still available in a pinch.
