While it's one he older Sheratons I've stayed in, I found the accommodations to be quite comfortable (once I switched off the noisy fan--I'm a light sleeper). The decor has been updated recently for a slightly modern look. which did look a little odd against the Tudor style architecture of the interior.

This downtown Sheraton sits away from the city hub by a few extra blocks, so it may not be the best location if you’re in town for Temple events or a convention. It does, however, make up for the distance with amenities not available at its city-center competitors.
There’s the outdoor rooftop pool that allows for sweeping views of the city. In the grand lobby, The Link by Sheraton® is a PC workstation with big monitors and laptop-friendly seating. For spur of the moment daytrips there’s an on-site car rental service. For romantic weekends, there’s a full-service salon, ticket desk, jeweler and masseuse. And for the business traveler, there’s a Starbucks®, fitness and business centers, onsite restaurant and bar and free airport shuttle. Well-appointed rooms are an added bonus. Ask for a high floor facing Temple Square for the best views or an interior garden room for a quieter experience.Recommended for:Business Travelers

The Sheraton is near the center of SLC, within walking distance of Temple Square, State Street, and several blocks from the old Salt Palace and Energy Solutions Arena. There are restaurants and yes, bars, a few blocks away. There is even a gentleman's club nearby. (Bars and lap dances in the shadow of the main Mormon Temple?! Geez , the winter Olympics 5 years ago changed everything!)
It is an older building (as most all downtown hotels are from any brand) but it has been completely remodeled and updated. The room is quite large; I stayed on the 9th floor (Starwood Gold member) and the king size bed did not overwhelm the room like some hotels.
The decor is a bit too homey for me: the wallpaper with decorative leaf trim next to the ceiling, with everything in a green/mauve accent. Sheraton over the past 5 years has really upgraded their beds, and they are pretty sumptuous now for sleep, with 5 pillows and a comfy mattress cover. All upper rooms also have a small private balcony.
The room has been updated with adequate outlets (don't you hate business hotels with limited outlets, and almost all of them are taken by the TV, coffee maker and lamps?! I carry my own power strip, for my 2 laptops - Mac and PC, 2 cell phones - separate work and personal, blue tooth headset charger, and iPod charger. Hell, thats six right there!). They still do turn down service in the evenings, which consists of a fresh bag of ice and a pillow chocolate, and your bedding turned down, of course!
There is an in house sports bar of sorts, an italian restaurant (Olio's) and a Starbucks concession in the lobby. The room for me was about $135 (before taxes) in September, mid-week. There is paid parking, but only for visitors. Guests can access parking with their room key.
This Sheraton is about 10 minutes from the airport, depending on traffic.

The Sheraton is a much better option than the other boring, dull and poorly designed hotels near by. The room was comfortable with a nice balcony. The lobby was immaculate and spacious. The pool wasnt anything special, but we enjoyed it because the weather was fantastic. In a city that is extremely cookie cutter with restaurants and hotels that you can find anywhere else, the Sheraton is one of the better options.
