The location is perfect - right in the heart of the shopping area and blocks from the theaters. The cable car goes right up the hill from there. They used to do a tea in the afternoon, but I'm not sure they still do. The view from the restaurant at the top is spectacular. We've stayed at other Kimptons and are always happy with their rooms and staff. It's pricey, but San Francisco is worth it and who knows what celebrity you might see in the lobby.Recommended for:

Loved the historic nature of the Drake Hotel. We were in town for a short weekend and they were conveniently located within walking distance of some great restaurants and points of interest. We ate at the hotel restaurant, which served delicious Italian fare at a reasonable price.Recommended for:

An interesting boutique hotel in Union Square. As with most Kimptom properties, this hotel has a boutiquey feel to it. The staff is dressed up in costumes which I find a bit gimmicky - but hey whatever works right?
The rooms are decently sized, following the same theme as the dress of the employees. This would be a good hotel for the kids, but nowdays I just prefer something clean and simple.Recommended for:

This hotel has a very classy and old feeling. When you walk in it feels like your in 50's hanging out with movie stars. They have a bar in the lobby plus one on the top floor ( starlight room ). The bar on the top floor has a view of the city and they make an amazing dirty martini. The starlight room has a DJ on the weekends and a small dance floor.

This hotel is lovely! It is older and retains its historical charms even as it's fairly well updated. Could use a pool, but I'm crazy for swimming in hotel pools on trips. Not everyone's priority. DIRECTLY across the street from the amazing Sears Restaurant (go!), super friendly staff, accommodating to the point of "I'm not worthy!" (but I am & you are too. go!)Recommended for:

Love, love, love this hotel!! This is a Kimpton Hotel which means that it's a dog friendly hotel (you DO NOT need to pay a fee for your dog or dogs). We have 4 dogs and we brought all of them on our road trip! Not only are they dog friendly but the location (smack in the middle of the shopping world) is awesome and the rooms are super clean and has a warm and welcoming feeling to it!! Great views as well! There is a park in between the hotel and Macy's for your dog to do their business and to walk your dogs around. They have great room service as well. They have Aveda bath products. The only downfall is that if you have a car than parking is expensive! It cost us $49 per day cause we had a SUV, but if you drive a hybrid they do give you a discount on parking. It is San Francisco, so parking is expensive in general. Well worth staying at this fabulous hotel with your dogs! We look for Kimpton Hotels when traveling with our dogs and when traveling without our dogs.

This is actually my least favorite Kimpton hotel to stay at. The location is superb, and the Starlight Lounge is on top, but I find the rooms a little drab. Also, I absolutely HATE the noise here. Not the hotel bar, the street noise bothered me all night long.

Dog friendly (no extra fees). Nice and friendly staff. Crisp white sheets. Aveda toiletries.
The standard room was on the small side and the queen bed felt like a full bed (good for cuddling). I am not complaining for $99. The basics are inside the room: iron, extra pillow, and a nice tv.
But not modern enough for me. I like my plasmas, platform beds, and a terry robe waiting for me.
Aside from being somewhat out dated with boisterous red velvet decor in the lobby (what do you expect, it's an old building), we enjoyed our stay here.
RECOMMEND if you have pets and not staying in the room during the day.
