Was not enamored by the 50/50 patty or the burgers in general. Felt like it was all "gilding the lily," but I'm probably just too much of a purist to really enjoy these burgers. However, the fried bacon mac and cheese balls were spectacularly good and reason enough to give this place 4 stars.

When your made to order hamburger arrives with a knife stuck in it to hold it together, you know you are about to experience a new memory. They are famous for their 50% beef / 50% bacon burger. IF you love bacon, you will also be happy to know they have bacon flavored ketchup, brownies, and shakes.

Once I heard about their 50/50 patty with half beef and half bacon, it was a must that I go here. Their Vampire Dip appetizer is nothing short of pheNOMenal, and the 50/50 burger exceeded my expectations. It should be ordered medium at the least in order for the bacon to be cooked through. Although it's a bit messy, it's definitely worth it.

This is not a place for calorie counters or vegans. Slater's makes ridiculous burgers to your own specifications, with the option of their signature 50/50 patty (50% ground beef and 50% ground bacon) at either a 1/3, 2/3, or full pound AFTER cooking. I had the 1/3 and I thought that was ridiculous, so I can't even imagine eating an entire 1 pound patty!
The wait at 6pm on a Friday was so long! We waited for an hour for a table for five. They text you a link with your estimated wait time and number of parties ahead of you, and they have a beer garden, heat lamps and benches for those that are stuck waiting.
I ordered a custom burger for about $10, with a regular beef patty, smoked gouda cheese, grilled onions, arugula, fritos, and sauteed mushrooms on a bacon pretzel roll. They forgot the fritos, but I told them I was in a hurry to catch a flight so I wouldn't dock them for missing one of my checked boxes. In fact, our server was very attentive and brought out the food quickly.
If you don't like burgers, there is a whole menu of non-burger items. My mom ordered buffalo chicken strips and my sister-in-law ordered the buffalo mac n cheese (topped with crush cheezits!). Both were delicious!
I think that Slater's is a great place for a fancy hamburger, especially for picky eaters. There is something for everyone...except for maybe those on strict diets.

I absolutely hate how hyped this place became to me. Yes, yes, yes...I taste the difference. It's 50 percent bacon and 50 percent beef. OK, off with the hype and on with the review.
I was really scheduled to try Slater's in Anaheim with my Yelp Elite buddies, closer to where I live. Surprisingly so, I ended up having it a bit earlier and at a different location, San Diego, during a bachelor party. I've seen this formula before for a semi-gourmet burger joint. You can choose from pre-built burgers, or make your own. I chose the namesake, Slater's 50/50 burger.
-=- 50/50 Burger-=- The 50/50 patty is only one patty of many, but it is the most popular. I know there was a time one month when 100% bacon was offered. I would have wanted to try that, but gotta do this first. Feast your eyes on this (http://www.yelp.com/biz_…) and tell me what looks wrong here. It's looks like a bread mushroom or maybe someone gave me a sliders bottom bun and a brioche top bun. How a burger leaves the kitchen looking like that, I dunno, but maybe it tastes better.
The meat should have been the highlight here, but it looks like I may have gotten a slider patty instead. For some reason, the proportion didn't add up. Why give me a humongous bun but not so much patty? Others have reflected that as well in their reviews. The chipotle aioli and pepperjack cheese which would usually enhance flavor were pretty insignificant and non-existent. Fried egg is always an excellent topping, but it didn't save this burger.
Monthly burgers is a cool thing here, and while I was there it was the 50 Alarm Burger. One person in my group attempted the challenge which required a waiver to be signed. I would have wanted to try as well, but after seeing the sweatballs form from the ghost chilies, I was glad I hadn't. I wouldn't have survived the car ride home.

Our first time at the restaurant was last week and we've there twice already. They have great quality burgers and 1/3 lb burger is a true 1/3. They also give you the option to make your own burger where you pick your condiments and extra sauces. The unique thing about this place is they have their 50% bacon mixed with 50% ground meat. Now that's daring! www.theoceanbeach.com
