I'm not a diver, so going to a diving-focused resort was never going to be a smart idea.
But I don't think I've ever had such a relaxing week away as I had at Small Hope Bay Lodge. While my travelling friends went diving I either went with them and snorkelled or stayed at the lodge and snorkelled. If I was snorkelling I was lazing in the hammock on the beach, reading a book. And I wasn't in a hammock I was exploring sleepy Andros Island on the resort's bikes.
But, my most memorable experience is the birdwatching, which was simply stunning (great hummingbirds) and even better is the blue swimming hole that can be found in a secret location. Diving off from the edge of the rim in to crystal blue cool water, surrounded by forest, is something I will never forget.
The lodge is simple, homely, friendly and has an execellent bar area to while away the night regaling stories. It is also "All Inclusive" which is a great, as there's nothing around for miles.
