Tim Byres has created a true niche for himself and his dedication to gourmet Texas smoked meats and fish. He has his own garden on the hill above the restaurant where he can grow his own veggies as well. He is committed to sourcing locally grown and raised ingredients in his dishes. The place feels like a comfortable Texas ranch house where the service is nothing but spot-on, friendly and laid back. Byre’s brunch is absolutely one of the best I have ever had in Texas, or for that matter anywhere!Recommended for:

Key Lime Pie! It's the biggest serving of dessert I've ever seen. (And it's good.) Their servings in general are sizeable, and it probably won't help your svelte figure to finish off a plate, but a starving gal (i.e. me, after being on a plane all day) can definitely polish off their briskett - and yes, it's good. It saddens me to admit their cocktails and sirloin steak could be better. On the bright side, service is friendly and you can swap out sides for whatever's listed as default on the menu. But the key lime pie is where it's at: moist, crumbly crust with a custard layer that's just the right amount of sweet and sour, topped with a very tall layer of meringue. Yum!

This is a great place to get authentic, Texas BBQ. Or at least my carnivorous husband and friends say it is. Speaking for the veggies, I will brag on the delicious veggie options on their menu. Go check it out and if you're staying at the Belmont Hotel you can just walk over because it's next door.
