In Costa Rica, sodas are really tiny (usually one room) diners. They typically have a menu written on the wall (or not at all) and you have a choice of simple Costa Rican (Tico) dishes. They cater mostly to locals and are cheap. Soda Sanchez was one of our favorites.

Soda Sanchez is one of the most simple restaurants that you will come across with a very limited menu highlighting a Costa Rican favorite- Gallo Pinto. While simple, the food is tasty and filling and extremely cheap- you will have a difficult time spending more than $10 at this place.
