Stayed here during Pride in 2011. Had a great time. This is a very nice hotel, with great service, and a stellar location. The rooms were a bit small, and I was a little weirded out by the window between the bathroom and the bedroom, but I figured out how to frost the glass on command, so no biggie.

The Sofitel is very hit or miss. The location is pretty central, between Beverly Hills and West Hollywood. The rooms are nice, but not amazing, assuming you get a good one. That said, the front of the hotel is on a very busy street that is very noisy, so make sure to request a room in the back or you won't sleep well. The pool is tiny - has views of the shopping mall across the street, and a shockingly long walk from the guestrooms. That said, staff is great. All in, there are better hotels in the neighborhood.Recommended for:

I was lucky enough to have a fair to attend at the Sofitel, so we stayed here for one night. The beds were ultra comfortable. The modern, clean bathroom with waterfall showerhead and nice cushy bathrobe. I'm drooling just thinking about it. Now if only I could afford it on a normal basis.

This hotel is in a great location - right across the street from the Beverly Center (which is a great shopping mall) and close to Restaurant Row. The decor here is modern and sleek with great service. I attended a conference here and the conference facilities were very comfortable. I also have come here for happy hour at the Stone Rose Lounge. The drinks and apps are all really great! The only drink I didn't like here was the Pear Martini - stay away from that drink.

I won’t parrot the previous reviewers at length, but will say I agree with great central location and with the busy/loud street complaint. I enjoyed my stay at Sofitel, but felt like the hotel relied on gimmicks quite a bit. For example, every staff member (it appeared) was required to greet every guest with “bonjour” every time they saw them…doubt they speak any more French. Also, my room had a switch plate glass window in the shower that looked into the room. I get that it’s cool to have, but what’s the point? The bed was the best part; soft linins and a down duvet are my jam. My room also had a couch that folded out into a Tempurpedic bed, which I’m sure is nice for families. The whole hotel is non-smoking, which is always appreciated.Recommended for:

just stayed here.
the good: it's a fantastic central location near lots of good shopping (Beverly center, Rodeo, the Grove) and tons of great restaurants. the concierge is very helpful and has printed handouts of recommended restaurants in LA, nearby restaurants, and nearby live music options.
the bad: parking is an extra $32/day. they only seem to have valet parking.
the ugly: rule #1: be wary of lodging in any close proximity to a level 1 trauma center (Cedars-Sinai Hospital). we stayed in a hotel room facing the street and could hear ambulances, fire trucks, and helicopters overhead all night. and i requested the top floor. the rooms facing the non main street side i believe are more expensive, and none were available during our stay. i ended up needing to run the AC all night, earplugs, and bought a sound machine/white noise app for my iphone to play all night to try to drown out the noise (unsuccessfully)! needless to say, no restful afternoon naps here. next time, i'll stay in some quiet suburb away from main streets... lesson learned!
