May travellers use this city as a base because of its location and convenience to travel to other cities in the region such as Positano and Capri - just a boat/ferry ride away. However I did love the city, its ambiance, architecture and a whole lot of acitivty to do like shows in the theater.

Great town at the northern end of the Amalfi Coast. Expensive shopping and dining, but wonderful views. Can be crowded in the summer, but worth spending a few hours anyway.

Just a short drive from Positano (around 30 minutes), it affords a little more action near the historic center, which is actually really cute. You can wander around artisan shops, little eateries, and very expensive hotels. The manmade beach is nothing people scramble to see, but across the water is a view of Vesuvius and the coast of Naples.

The biggest and most bustly town on the Amalfi coast. Its a stop over for cruise ships, so when they are in port the town is crowded and not so pleasant. When they are away, its nice. We stayed just outside the town on a hotel on the cliffs above the sea, which was magical.

I went to Sorrento, right on the christmast day last year (2013). it was nice and a dream city to live. with orange trees anywhere in the city, and giant christmas tree at the centre of piaza tasso, just made my christmas as the memorable ever. to reach this city from Sorrento takes about 4 hours from Napoli, when the venue is almost there, the extremely gorgeous views! cliffs and beach ... i thought the heaven is in the earth of Italy :) want to go back there for longer stay

One of the first stops on the Amalfi coast is Sorrento. It can be slightly touristy but is also really charming and, my favourite, fulls of lemons which means some really really good limoncello. And crema di limoncello. I am usually not a fan of this often too-sweet after dinner liqueur, BUT, in Sorrento, they do it right.

Didn't really see much of Sorrento, just the harbor mainly. I did however book a sailboat tour of Capri that departed from and arrived back in Sorrento. It turned out to be a fantastic day and a great decision. Four people I met in the hostel in Naples came down with me. We were greeted by the owner of the sailboat his sister and her son. We left Sorrento and had a tour of Capri which lasted about 5 hrs. I highly recommend doing something like this if you are in Sorrento or Naples.

Sorrento is a small southern Italy city overlooking the Gulf of Naples. It's views of the gulf are absolutely breathtaking.

Great city to visit and walk around the alleys and side streets with wonderful small shops. The city square has several nice buildings located around it.

This quaint city makes you feel miles away from the hustle and bustle of Rome. You can easily find fishermen tending their nets and people who speak barely any English. Such a gem!

Sorrento is beautiful and easy to get around in. Most people speak english and the seafood, pasta & pizza is first class. Try to avoid the tourist traps and take note all the restaurants and cafes in the piazzas will be expensive.

Beautiful small city right by the water, near Capri and Pompeii. Don't expect to do anything in the afternoon, Sorrento-and most Italian cities-tend to take their siestas very seriously.
