Do NOT let the humble exterior -- or this rather bland photograph of visually unappealing food -- fool you for one moment. This place offers some of the most outstanding cuisine on South Congress. Last time I was there, I had a pescado so dadgum exciting to eat, I went back the next day and ordered the thing again. I mean, you want to experience a wild but complementary collection of different flavors, textures, and food sources in one entree, and come away with a grin on your face still not being sure it was all for real -- but you know it was -- this is the place to eat. Especially for lunch. Two blocks from the house, it was a 6 minute walk last time I dawdled it. Don't miss this one. Don't.

Most delicious cuisine and drinks on South Congress offering a variety of unique and familiar dishes. They're a little expensive, but offer generous portions and an enjoyable atmosphere, they also usually offer great brunch and happy hour specials.Recommended for:

They're known for their eggs benedicts, but I loved my smoked brisket hash! I also really enjoyed their fried grits croutons, which were more like croquettes. Expect a long wait as this is one of the most popular brunch spots on South Congress. You can head down to Perla's for some drinks while you wait as they call your phone when your table is ready.Recommended for:

While they don't take reservations for groups less than 6 people, they do have a "call ahead" system. Call them before you leave the house and tell them you're on your way. They'll put your name on the list and you'll be ahead of the game when you arrive.

I am a HUGE fan of South Congress Cafe! I do not get the chance to go very often because it tends to hurt my money pocket buts its worth the chance. If you ever get the chance to go, do not go on a Sunday! For God's Sake, go any other day! They serve brunch all the time! Do not waste your Sunday in a 2 hour wait list for it! The place is amazing but no brunch is worth the aggravating wait in Texas heat. They service brunch every day! Take advantage of the slower times, so you can enjoy it and get your food faster!
The cafe is cute! There is a bar area for you to sit if you are alone or you can be in the main table area. The staff has always been very delightful and helpful! There is not a time when we do not get the Carrot Cake French Toast. Its so damn delicious! Its perfectly cooked and not over most! Never over-cooked and its just...mouth watering! The great thing about that dish that it is vegetarian friendly for those who do not consume meat products! We also ordered the Salsa Sampler and they had some good salsas on that plate. I couldn't tell you which one was what or which was my favorite because we ate it all. We also ordered Crab Enchiladas...Oh my god! They were so delicious but my god they were spicy! Once you take a bite, the hotness hits your tongue within a second! I thought I was going to die but my sinuses were cleared up! It was to intense for me but the flavor was great! For me, I wish it was not as spicy but for those who love spicy food! You will love it!
Food is amazing but lets talk about their drinks! This is why I can't afford to go to them! Every time I go, I end up getting 3 to many Beach Bellinis and to many cucumber everything! Those Peach Bellinis are just so delicious! It is one of the main reasons I actually go to South Congress Cafe! I can not get enough of them. I dream about these drinks! If you are not as much as a foodie but love specialty drinks, you must stop here on your rounds. They do not disappoint at all!Recommended for:

Great place for brunch! I stopped by South Congress Cafe when I was visiting Austin for work. I wanted to try a good restaurant prior to heading home so again I relied on Yelp reviews to make my decision.
The food and service at South Congress were excellent. I ordered the Steak and Migas Benedict, which was topped with Chipotle Hollandaise. It was super delicious! The steak was very tender, muffin light and not too dense, and the sauce had a nice kick. You also get a basket of mini corn muffins to start! Oh yeah and the potato pancake which came with the Benedict was nice and crispy.
You should check this place out if you are visiting Austin and you want a very good brunch!

The wait on the weekend can be long, but if you get the timing just right then you wont have to wait at all. Even if you do, the food is worth it because it is incredibly good. The savory and sweet dishes are all outstanding and they usually have some breakfast specials that always spectacular.
