OK, get past the slow service and the lack of sitting room at times, this is a place where something inevitably interesting happens. Not in a fight breaking out kind of way, but more like a place where people go to gossip over bloody marys in a booth or hook up with someone they just met through friend of friends of friends. Sitting in the darkness underneath the mural of Mt. Hood and the downtown skyline to the west, this was usually the last place you'd end up after you're well into your drunk. One of the few bars with its own parking lot on Hawthorne, it usually doubles as a diner on the other side, whose threshold which I think I've only crossed once. The atmosphere intimates as vintage bar, but well worn and inviting. Don't know Happy Hour or if they even have one because I haven't ever been there before 9pm, always post-birthdays and New Years. Again, their Bloody Marys are awesome.
