I have always had the "I love it before I ever see it" kind of affair with the Spanish Steps. I first knew about it from the Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck 1953 black and white movie Roman Holiday. It was the funniest and most romantic movie I had ever seen as a little girl. My favorite scene was after Audrey Hepburn cut off her long hair, she used up her last bit of money to buy a gelato and enjoyed it at Spanish Steps. I dreamed about doing it one day myself. The first time I was in Rome, I made a point of eating a gelato at Spanish Steps. However, much to my surprise, it was so crowded. It was nothing like the scene in the movie, where there were just a few people. I could hardly find space to step my feet let along sitting down. I had a photo taken of me holding a gelato with hundreds of people behind me at Spanish Steps. Dreams do come true, just not exactly as I imaged.

Each time I visit Rome I never fail to go to this spot. First its fun to people watch, next its right next to the fashionable streets of Via Condotti and Via Del Curso just need to watch out for pickpockets :)
