From March to June, the entire town of Spello smells good. Their Inforiata festival brings out flowers by the flowerpot-full as flowers also literally carpet the town. there aren't any big fancy sites, but just wandering through for a day and stopping in at Enoteca Properzio for a wine and food tasting lunch is more than enough to make this one of my favorite towns in Umbria.

Beautiful anytime of year to visit, but worth it to plan your trip around L'Infiorata--in late May/early June--when the vias are decorated with flower petal paintings for a celebration that they spend all year preparing for--extraordinary event!

Gorgeous hill town in Umbria - full of flowers and artist galleries - watch out though, it's steep!

The old walled town of Spello offers some amazing views from its hilltop location. Situated in central Umbria, Spello is a densely-inhabited stone city. Down the hill is its more modern side where a rail line to Rome and Florence can be found.
