"Most specialist New Year's Eve ever. Ever!"

We got spruced up and drove to SF. Being fashionably late, I was courteous enough to called every ten minutes to update and they were cool about it. Manage to find parking too! Score!

Upon arrival, greeted by the friendly staff with a warm smile. Offering to take our coats before being comfortably seated at the dining booth.

New Year's Eve Dinner (taken from their website):

    - Complimentary oyster

    - Tai Red Snapper Crudo =Winter Citrus, Charred Onion, Lardo di Colonata

    - Savoy Cabbage Potage = Toasted Grains, Abalone, Sea Lettuce

    - Prime Beef Rib-Eye = Short Rib, Beets ( thank you for taking a bit even though you hate it), Fennel Pollen

    - Butter-Poached Maine Lobster = Trotter Ravioli, Celeriac, Arkansas Apple

    - Pain d'Epices = Bourbon Cranberries, Goat Cheese Mousse, Red Wine Ice Cream

Henriot Champagne ($40) to toast for a lovely new year. Following a half bottle of Granache blend ($76), Domaine Du Vieux Télégraphe, Châteauneuf-du-Pape to go along with our dinner.

Beyond a wallet busting dinner that could cost you an arm and a leg, it was worth every penny. A good place to impress the lady and in return for something greater...

With dishes like borscht with black pepper creme anglaise and duck breast with a cassoulet, Spruce is quickly becoming one of the most popular upscale dining options in San Francisco (not an easy task). With over 2500 items on the wine menu and an exceptionally knowledgeable sommelier, Spruce is as much a wine destination as it is a foodie mecca.

Fine dining in Presidio Heights. The sweetbread was nothing short of amazing.

Spruce remains to be one of my favorite restaurants in SF. Impeccable food, top notch service and elegant atmosphere. I've celebrated special occasions here, and they've always been memorable.

Service was exceptional. When my friend ordered the endive and pear salad to start and I passed on a starter, I was still served a cup of carrot soup compliments of the chef, so I wouldn't be without anything. It was extremely thoughtful. Our glasses were never empty, and the second it looked like we were done with our course, our dishes were promptly removed and our next dish was served soon thereafter.

The food was phenomenal. My pork tenderloin and pork belly was deliciously tender and flavorful. My friend's halibut was wonderfully flakey and bursting with flavor.

The dessert was absolutely decadent. We ordered two and shared both of them. We had the chocolate and caramel fondant with chocolate sorbet and chocolate paper and the white chocolate cream with hazelnut cake and coffee ice cream. The fondant was so rich that as much as I wanted to finish the whole thing, I couldn't. Both desserts topped off our fantastic dinner.

Our check came with two mini coconut macaroons, which was a sweet gesture. Unbelievably, our total came out to $105 including tip. I would have expected it to be twice as much.

The friendly hostess called a cab for us, and while we waited outside, we noticed the pastry kitchen and the private dining room located on either side. I would love to have a private party in there one day, the space looked so intimate.

All right, Spruce is fancy food. Honestly though, their burgers are to die for so if you want fine dining OR the yummiest burger in town this is your place. Also note you can valet.

Spruce is a great restaurant - they have amazing food, impeccable service and awesome wine. It's pretty much all you need. Not only did they bring out some tasty gougeres to start the meal (not as good as the French Laundry, but that's a pretty impossible standard), when my friend couldn't decide which wine to choose, the waiter brought her a taste of the 3 different wines she was considering. I would definitely recommend this for a night out for dinner!

We celebrated a birthday dinner here and it was everything you expect from your typical fine dinning experience- good food, elegant ambiance, knowledgeable staff and little personality. While I remember everything was cooked to perfection, the restaurant felt a little too stuffy for our liking. The worst part was how expensive a birthday cake was. I would replace this restaurant with Sons and Daughters or Gary Danko instead.

One of San Francisco's best, but this is one of those restaurants that you only go to on special occasions. Quiet, elegant, understated... perfect... and expensive!
