While it might be easy to confuse its black and white spirals with the lighthouse on Cape Hatteras, you can distinguish the St. Augustine Lighthouse by the red lantern atop its 165-foot tower. The light still operates today and is privately owned by the nonprofit St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum.

Climb 219 steps to the top of the St. Augustine lighthouse and view the historic city and the Atlantic Ocean. The antique fresnel lens still lights the sky. Sometimes, there are special ghost tours that tell about the paranormal activities in the lighthouse. A museum in the old Light Keeper's House tells the history of the site.Recommended for:History Buffs
