Given the price and location near Granville, the St Clair is a decent find. The vibe is more hostel than hotel and the rooms are very simply furnished and share bathrooms. Each floor has its own bathrooms as well as a microwave and fridge so you can make yourself a light meal. The building is more than 100 years old so it's a bit musty and there is no elevator - be prepared to lug your bag up lots of narrow stairs. It does not have a social vibe at all, so is best for travelers who like to keep to themselves.
Note that there isn't a formal reception desk or anything so you need to check in within certain hours (before 7pm on weekdays). The phone numbers for the staff were posted on the door and they have a strict no walk-in policy.Recommended for:
