A friend and I were looking for a place to grab breakfast in the Mission and this place popped up in our search. It's a small and cute diner that serves your typical American breakfast dishes: omelets, corned beef hash, and pancakes. It was nice to see that they also offered a few vegetarian and vegan options. I ordered the Chef's Mess and it was pretty tasty and hearty. The staff was nice and service was fairly quick.

Saint Francis definitely offers the kind of kitsch experience you're looking for. It has been on the same corner in the mission since 1918. It's an old fashioned lunch counter joint that doubles as an ice cream parlor and confectionary. The vibe is retro American and is just the kind of experience a tourist would be interested in.

This greasy spoon has been around since the turn of the twentieth century, but has recently been transformed into one of the hippest brunch spots in the city. Lots of vegetarian/vegan options in a classic dinner with all the trappings of small town America. The wait can be a little long on the weekends so get in early before the previous night's revelers recover from their hangovers and stumble on over. I like the Chef's Mess which includes eggs, potatoes, bacon, cheese, green onions, and sour cream; it's hearty and delicious.

Good, reasonably priced diner food. The sandwiches are tasty and they come with a choice of side. They offer all kinds of ice cream concoctions as well, including soy options for those who avoid dairy.
