Recently rated by "Open Table" members as the best restaurant on Open Table. A bit of a misnomer as it only offers wine and food pairings. Not a full restaurant but one of the best in the Sonoma Valley. They are known for the excellent red wines, in particular Zinfandel.

Beautiful views of Sonoma Valley and Sugarloaf Regional Park. Great wines and they also have daily food and wine pairing for an additional price

This winery was purpose-built here about 10 years ago and has beautiful vineyard views and yummy wines. They have beautiful weddings here too!

Gayle and I came up to St. Francis several weeks ago as part of a Sunday Sonoma field trip and a search for some good Port. The property is spacious and accented by a large Mission-style compound and an expansively handsome wine tasting bar. It's one of the fancier Sonoma Valley places that we visited. It's also one that Gayle would like to return as there were many more wines to try, their back patio offered a relaxing respite and a nice Vineyard view, the food and wine pairings were most tempting, and their Summer Outdoor Film Festival sounded like a lot of fun.

We were lucky to get one of the Sonoma Valley "Old Timers" to help us at during the tasting. I think his nickname was Frosty. He was fun, friendly, and very knowledgeable about the other Wineries and personalities that help make the Sonoma Valley the great place that it is. And since we only wanted to taste port, we got a break on the tasting fees. We left with a full bottle of delicious Port that later lasted nicely into our romantic plans.

This winery offers one of the more elaborate wine tasting opportunities which reflects the large size of the operation. In addition to wines, they will put on a food and wine pairing for you. We tried it in the mid afternoon and some of our party were still full by dinner time.

My favourite of the vinyards I went to in the Sonoma region. i am not a huge Pinot Noir fan but the St Francis Zinfandels and Cabernets are fantastic.

Description:

This Sonoma Valley winery was established in 1971 by a San Francisco businessman and his wife. They dubbed it St. Francis because of the saint's role as protector of the natural world, and to recognize the Franciscan order's role in bringing grape cultivation to the new world. Wine-maker Tom Mackey oversaw production from 1983 until his retirement in 2011. The winery operates two wine clubs that allow you to sample new wines not available elsewhere, and the visitor's center provides flights that can be appreciated with a view of Sonoma's beautiful rolling hills. The winery can be booked for weddings and other events.
