If you were Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, visiting St. Petersburg after your famous space-tour of '61, the Party would likely put you up at the Hotel Astoria. It's caviar, gold-lace and plush pile all the way. Stop in for a tea after visiting St. Isaac's cathedral, but stay elsewhere unless you just want to shed some pounds from your wallet.

The latest in a string of heritage hotels from Four Seasons (including 2013 World’s Best winners in Budapest, Istanbul, and Florence), the Lion Palace is the brand’s most ambitious restoration yet. The transformation of this former palace, guarded by a pair of lion statues for nearly two centuries, into a 177-room hotel has taken nearly a decade and was completed ...

This hotel is right on one of the major canals. The location is close to all of the major tourists sites and the shopping district. The rooms are very nice and they give you bottled water because the water in St. Petersburg is questionable. The breakfast was served in a restaurant next door to the hotel. The staff was very ...

The hotel Red October was one of the few hotels open when I visited St.Petersburg in 1993. It was at one time, a mansion converted into a hotel by the communist authorities. There was a little old man with a red armband who would stand at the door and request your papers when you came in and out.

We stayed in this nice luxury boutique hotel in St. Petersburg last end of May to early June. Good location near the main avenue and with shops around the same street. Tastefully designed rooms. Good food at their dining area. With free wifi at the lobby. Just had some problems during check in because they had to get all passports ...
