The St. Regis is absolutely stunning. Their pool is beautiful and the rooms are some of the most luxurious rooms you'll stay in. If you're worried about not being on the beach - they have carts that will take you down to the water.

I wish I could live here! My girlfriends and I received the royal treatment during our stay here. The resort room we were in faced out to the hills and residential neighborhood of mansions so it was just as nice as looking out to the ocean or pool area. The room was spacious, beds were heavenly and the bathroom was enormous.
Impeccable service from their entire staff! At times I felt like a spoiled child.
Make use of their spa facilities even if you don't book one of their expensive treatments. You can work out in their fitness center (they provide bottle water, ear buds, towels and snacks) and then use the jacuzzi, steamroom and sauna afterwards. I really enjoyed showering in the locker room - in addition to luxurious shampoo, conditioner, body wash and shaving cream, each stall had towels, razor, scrubbing mitt, and shower cap available for you to use.
There's a lounge that stays open late, so you can grab a night cap there if Stonehill Tavern (the Michael Mina restaurant in the hotel) is closed.
The resort is set back from the ocean with a golf course in between, so you're not right next to the beach. For that reason, I would say I prefer the location of the neighboring Ritz-Carlton or The Montage down the street better. Other than that, I would love to stay here again.

The St. Regis is gorgeous. It was what you would expect to get with a classy hotel, great service and hospitality. The rooms are very nice and they have a great spa and gym. Stonehill Tavern is also located in the hotel. For the price, I may choose to stay at the Montage next time.

Absolutely gorgeous resort. It's elegant, not too posh, very Venetian architecture and decor. I'm a huge fan of the grounds (you'll get lost if you try to take a walk around). Pretty big plus that it's right by the beach.

With distinguishing Tuscan-inspired architecture and decor gracing the resort, from the doorways and hallways to the balconies and terraces, the St. Regis Monarch Beach is grand yet inviting. A soft, warm color palette, European stone and marble, sprawling botanicals and organic herbs lend a residential appeal to this luxury resort.
It is a resort that is the first of its kind, an ideal combination of luxurious rooms, spectacular cuisine, breathtaking views, world-class spa, private beach club, and oceanfront golf course.
Elegantly appointed and notably spacious, the 400 guestrooms and suites feature contemporary interiors highlighted by custom-designed furniture in warm earth tones, fresh flowers and plants, Pratesi Italian linens and luxurious goose-down comforters. Upscale residential elements extend through the plantation shutters to the five-fixture bathrooms with exquisite marble accents, sizeable bathtubs and separate showers, Lissadell Irish terry towels and Laboratoire Remede skin and body care products.

The relatively new St Regis Resort in Monarch Beach is an exceedingly nice hotel and a totally fun place to stay. I knew I loved this hotel the second I spotted the incredible bathtub in my room and the complementary jumbo-sized samples of Aqua De Parma products lined up next to the sink. I am a sucker for good hotel toiletries and the ones at this resort are pretty exceptionally outstanding -- I've yet to see any other hotel that provides free toiletries of this quality, let alone this size, to their guests. I stayed at the St. Regis while visiting the area to go to a friend's wedding at the Ritz-Carlton in Laguna Niguel and while the St Regis was very-well located, in relation to the wedding, this would probably not be a hotel I would stay at if I did not already have a reason to be in this area. The St Regis is a top-notch establishment, but the location is not thrilling and I think a stay here might become boring after a day or two, so I would not suggest this hotel to anyone wanting to visit for longer than a weekend.

Be aware that the Starwood Free Night Awards require a credit card/cash deposit (this one was $300) upon check-in. While the amount, I feel, is reasonable, it was not disclosed prior to our arrival. I flew all the way across the country expecting a wonderful experience, only to be turned away in the lobby of the hotel. I suffered flight delays--arriving very late. But, most of all, I got a credit card alert that blocked the credit card; someone had used stolen the number and used it. The card now had to be replaced. I thought, "at least it's a Free Night Award." I had stayed at a Starwood hotel in the past using a free night award and no cash was required. The cash on me was less than $300, but I even booked the FREE NIGHT AWARD months in advance. I was told they could not allow us to stay at their hotel.
It was already late into the evening; I called SPG (I've been a Preferred member for 13 years) for another booking and they stated that the only other resort (Free Night Award was for a resort only) had no availabilities. I ended up sitting on a bench in the airport lobby all night long, and until my 11:33 AM flight departed. I didn't even get to see the city or the area. I was disappointed and heart-broken. Money doesn't grow on trees; and, I just flew cross-country to receive a broken heart.
I hope no one else has to go through that.
