Oh, the brunch at Stanley! When a good friend left town, one more Stanley! brunch was a final order of business. The more affordable counterpart to the jaw-dropping Stella!, this half of Tennessee Williams' screaming pair features personalized variations on the classic eggs Benedict, which are the tallest I've ever seen. It's bustling (with a long wait) on weekends but quiet during the week, and not at all a tourist trap despite its prime Jackson Square real estate.

Externally, Stanley looks like your average diner, conveniently in the corner of the French Quarter to lure in unassuming tourists. The long lines scream out "tourist trap", but once you taste the food, you'll realize that it's worth every minute of the wait.
I started off my afternoon "lunch" with a cup of the Gumbo with potato salad. This was arguably the best gumbo I've ever had. Now, you'll have to take into account that I'm no expert in cajun/creole food by any means and this was my first visit to New Orleans. However, I've had many variations of seafood gumbo in the past, and this was, by far, the best. Adding in the potato salad was something I've never tried before in the past, and it definitely was interesting... and delicious.
I got the Breaux Bridges Benedict after reading Yelp reviews, and even though it was definitely good (the boudin was a nice complement to the nicely poached eggs), it somehow left a little more to be desired. Perhaps it was the odd structure of the somewhat-tough French bread; or perhaps it was the lack of any standout flavor. I'm not sure. Don't get me wrong, though, it was... good.
I washed everything down with an excellent Bloody Mary -- perfectly spiced, with just the right amount of tomato juice.
Stanley was an excellent lunch experience, with great food and attentive service. I'll undoubtedly be craving their seafood gumbo all the way until my next visit to NOLA.
