First off, the Lakers play there so it's an automatic 5 star rating! The Clippers and LA Kings play there too. It's a great place for concerts as long as you aren't sitting in the top section. If you are at the top, you'll mainly watch the jumbo tron so I'd rather not go. This is a newer venue so the building interior and exterior is really nice. Great food vendors, plenty of places to buy drinks - there's actually a bar at the main entrance.
There are plenty of parking around the Staples Center. If you are willing to walk a few blocks, you can save a substantial amount of money. The parking price depends on the event, it could be $10 or $25, it just depends on the popularity. I prefer parking a block away because it makes for an easy out back to the freeway. I can stay until the end of a concert or event and be on the freeway within 5 minutes.
I've seen many great concerts and sporting events here, it's a fantastic venue!

The Staples Center is home to the LA Lakers, LA Clippers, LA Kings, and countless other events held here throughout the year. Parking is costly. It's best to use public transportation to get to Staples. It'll alleviate headaches if you do.

As the years have gone by, staple center had steadily improved. In the last couple of years they have an added an LA sports museum inside, an Art/photography studio and many statues honoring the greatest of the great LA Sports Heroes - Magic Johnson, Wayne Gretsky, Oscar de la Hoya and recently Chick Hearn. They have also added more parking, so you can always find a parking space, yes it can be pricey, but I can even with a little walk find free parking.
Insides Staples, seating is spacious, so there is always enough room to move and the suites are awesome, with nice couches and sometimes if your lucks people leave drinks behind :)
Watching a Laker game is a great experience, fans (the real fans who sit higher) are always boisterous and fun. Clipper games are cool too, becasue their are much more freebies and u can always usually move around since there are more seats. They also have a great fan in Clipper Daryl, who always excites the crowd.
Watching a concert is also a magnificent experience due to the great acoustics and seats even high you can still see everything.
Food is alright here, love getting my downtown dog and beer. Its about the same price as any other stadium, so nothing that can be done there.
Finally you can always walk out of staples and visit LA Live with its vast array of restaurants and nightlife.

This place is huge! L.A. Auto Show...sigh. If you like looking at really expensive cars, that is. Ok, ok, you might say it's a travesty that I mention this rather than basketball, or even hockey, but what can I say? After a long flight from the East Coast and a long, cold winter in Boston, the car show is what I'd most likely detour for straight from the airport.

I actually much prefer the Honda Center in Anaheim (in neighboring Orange County) for music performances, but I can't say anything about awards shows/events or sports games because I've never seen any here. (I know, Lakers fans, but I have no interest in basketball.) Anyway, it has pretty poor acoustics - and parking is terrible (and expensive) unless you want to park a mile away and walk. It's not a terrible venue, but there are definitely better.

This is as good as it gets for sports and shows in LA - and that's saying a lot. My biggest memory of this place is spending a day here with Magic Johnson filming a casino commercial. We were a small production team and the place is so huge, I felt a little like a fly in a vacant railway car - but one full of lights, tv monitors and cozy VIP lounges!
