Must ride the gondola ride!!!
Sterling Vineyards is a must stop destination when you are in the wine country. It is different from other winery because in order to do wine tasting you have to take the tram to get to it.
The view is great, the wine is good, the staff is friendly and the overall experienced was worth it. I hope you give this place a try. Cheers!Recommended for:

By far one of my most favorite favorite vineyards in the Napa Valley!
I just love the whole experience. You don't just sit around and sip. You take almost a little field trip like back in the toddler days only this is an adult field trip with yummy alcoholic beverages!
Highly recommend to lovers, friends, families!
Bonuses of the experience:
- Gondola ride with the view of lily pads
- balcony with views of napa valley
- a tasting room at the end of the tasting tourRecommended for:

Their wines really aren't the best but it is pretty much THE place to bring anyone to for their very first wine tasting trip. The view is nice and the tram ride is fun. They will be pour your wines at different stations through out your self guided tour. There are lots of indoor and outdoor seating you can sit down, relax and enjoy your wine. Unfortunately they do not allow any food up there.
I purchased the silver pass and I recommend it. You get a couple more tastings with table service in their reserved room. Each silver pass holder can also bring a guest into the reserved room so you don't need to purchase the pass for everyone in your group. The staff was friendly and attentive. My out of town friends all had a great time even though they are not that into wine.
Sterling is a little touristy but it is perfect for anyone not seriously into wine tasting and just want an excuse to check out the lovely wine country. 4 stars for the experience but not the wine.Recommended for:

Great view from on the way up and from the fabulous porch. The tour in the vineyards is self guided but you have tv screen with short videos all over the place explaining on the process of making the wine.

Sterling does not have the best wine in Napa (it is a huge, corporate winemaker), so a lot of real wine aficionados turn up their nose at this place. However, in terms of winery tours, it is one of the better ones. The tours are well done, they have a cool tram that is fun with kids, and an outdoor balcony with great views where you can enjoy your wine.Recommended for:

One of my favorites to bring out of towners for visit...not necessary for the wine, (sadly), but for an awesome wine country experience. There is something really cool about riding in a cable car to get to the tasting area which is done in a very civilized sit down way. The ride down is just as cool overlooking the vineyards.

Sterling Vineyards is a nice place to visit more for the scenery and less on the wine. To me, the wine was okay, but my palette has tasted better. During my last visit here, I was stoked about riding the gondola up to the tasting room since it is located high on a hill, over looking the Napa Valley. I was able to take some nice pics of the view from the tasting room.

its been a few years since i've been, but my favorite part of this winery is the tram (gondola) you take to get up to the tasting building which is perched atop a medium sized hill. short of taking a balloon ride, this is one of the view ways to get a breathtaking aerial view of napa valley. i believe the cost of the tram, self guided tour, and 5 bottle wine tasting (including glass) are all bundled together. it used to be $20, but i'm sure has gone up a tad, though still not a bad deal. i found the wines to be pretty good, though the view on the tram is really the highlight and worth a visit, esp if you have out of town guests.

I'm hesitant to recommend Sterling's wine. It's not my favorite (though it's by no means bad). The best reason to come to Sterling Vineyards, however, is actually the means by which one visits Sterling Vineyards. You see, Sterling is located on the plateaued summit of a mountain. Reaching it on foot would not be an endeavor to be undertaken lightly. Fortunately for us, there is a gondola from the parking lot! The views of Napa Valley, both from the gondola and the tasting rooms are just amazing.
Bring a little picnic and enjoy some wine and a snack on the terrace, which overlooks the valley to the south. It's really stunning on a nice day.
