Living in NY City, I've been to some top-notch steakhouses- both traditional and newer. This may not be up to that standard, but that doesn't mean it's not good. It's very good, just not outstanding.
The decor is very nice and inviting. It's contemporary and comfortable (except it could have been a couple of degrees cooler.) Dress code seems to range from neat casual to full dress (I did take off my jacket and tie.) It is romantic enough unless semi-loud dance-mixed classic rock and pop songs puts you off.
Cocktails took a little long to arrive (they had to confirm with me the preparation of a Negroni.)
Jumbo lump crab salad was just the right size and very tasty, though melon chunks were not ripe.
Both my wife's and mine 10 oz. filet mignons were one-level undercooked- she ordered medium that came medium rare and my medium rare came rare. That was fine for both of us, but a better steakhouse cooks them exact- that is the standard that is used.
My wife was disappointed with the truffle fries as they were thick blocks, not thin sliced. My mashed Yukon Gold and creamed spinach were tasty.
Shared desert of Oreo cheesecake with a couple of deep-fried Oreos was very good. Coffee was ok.
The waiter never tried to up-sell us on wine suggestions and also warned about the large, shareable sides and dessert.
18% gratuity is automatically added as seems to be standard practice down here.
Upon leaving, another waitress flagged a cab for us.
All in all, for a better steakhouse, prices were fairly reasonable.
