The pretty mountain town of Stowe sets the scene for this sophisticated resort, where cabins feature woven timber, natural stone, floor-to-ceiling windows, and bamboo sheets. Hit the slopes, take a family-friendly Segway tour on nearby Spruce Peak, or opt for mini–spa treatments like a 25-minute Chillax Session, complete with aromatherapy and cucumber slices, aimed exclusively at kids.

Stowe Mountain Lodge is spectacular. Staying here, you can be really active on the mountain, but really lazy at the lodge. Valets will whisk your car away when you arrive, and at this ski-in/ski-out luxury lodge they even have a valet for your skis. The accommodation can be as flexible as your family or friend group – some of the lodge’s suites can sleep over a dozen people, in gorgeous bedrooms clustered around a central living space and kitchen. Stowe’s mountain resort is year-round, with gondolas and ski lifts to carry you up Mount Mansfield and a 2,300-foot summertime Alpine slide to bring you back down in a hurry.

Fancy digs, fancy food and the closest you can sleep to Stowe’s ski runs. Ski in or out of the lodge in the winter -- in the summer, hike Mount Mansfield or parts of the Long Trail. Vermont produce, cheese, baked goods and meat supply the lodge’s restaurants. Watch out if you’re allergic to furry critters -- dogs are allowed in the lodge’s rooms and lobbies.

The sprawling, immaculately-designed Stowe Mountain Lodge hovers at the top end of Mountain Road like a massive spaceship. It’s purpose-built, mostly in 2008, for the twenty-first century traveler. Huge, high-ceilinged lobbies open to fancy dining spaces and a long bar for the all-important après-ski. The lodge’s spa suite is simply beautiful -- a heated outdoor pool offers winter swimming with a view of the ski runs. The entrance to the swimming pool is inside the lodge, so you don’t have to worry about getting cold on your way to the water – just splash your way through a heat-retaining plastic curtain to the great outdoors. Well-traveled chefs concoct some of the Northeast’s finest meals from locally-sourced produce, and the views from the lodge to the mountain slopes and Alpine village opposite are simply spectacular. Stay here for the utmost in modern luxury.Recommended for:Luxury Travelers
