This extremely large hotel on the Strand has slightly grungy carpets, and cheesy London souvenirs for sale in the lobby. Still, the location is convenient and, while the prices aren't budget, they're definitely on the cheap side for London.

The joy of this hotel is the location. The Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, Covent Garden, London Eye, Theatre-land, Trafalgar Square, Soho, Charring Cross are all within walking distance of the hotel.
Book in advance through the likes of Laterooms.com and you should be able to get yourself a room at a reasonable rate.
The rooms are comfortable and clean, the food is very good and the staff are helpful and polite.
When I return to London I will be more than happy to stay at the Strand Palace again.

A large scale, one hundred (100) years old hotel offering modest lodging on the bustling Strand in Central London. Though its public areas have been recently renovated, the space is largely unwelcoming. Most of its 786 guestrooms are relatively modern, spacious and well-priced. There are four restaurants and bars onsite including the Mask Bar and Lounge Bar offerings classic beverages, the Carvery Restaurant serving British dishes and the Johnstone Brasserie, recently made into a Bar & Grill, serving good, reasonable priced pre-theater dishes. The hotel lacks fitness center, but guests are offered access to a nearby facility. The service is standard, and Wi-Fi Internet is complimentary for up to 30 minutes in the lobby. Nearby are major popular destinations such as the Charing Cross Tube Station, Trafalgar Square, Covent Garden, the National Gallery, Leicester Square, Pall Mall, London Eye, Big Ben, Soho as well as a large number of theaters.

The single bed rooms are quiet small, but very good. All rooms are refurbished or are going to be. If you book in advanced or get a good rate you pay around 120€ a night for a single bed room.
It is not very cheap, but very good quality and you are located in the heart of London in the Theatre district right around Covent Garden
