Sultanahmet square is a junction point of history. At night especially the magical lamps of turkey creates an amazing sense of tranquility. A perfect place to spend a whole day under the shades of Hagia Sophia and blue mosque.

This area is directly beside the Blue Mosque. We were visiting Istanbul during Ramadan, so everyone was out after sunset with their families, there were live bands and food vendors everywhere, it was great fun. I do suspect it is still a nice place to hang out after dinner during the rest of the year as well!Recommended for:Family Travelers

The Hippodrome of Constantinople was a circus that was the sporting and social centre of Constantinople, capital of the Byzantine Empire. Today it is a square named Sultanahmet Meydanı (Sultan Ahmet Square) in the Turkish city of Istanbul, with a few fragments of the original structure surviving. It is sometimes also called Atmeydanı (Horse Square) in Turkish.
