The second you walk into the Summit Lodge you are greeted by either a tiny Boston terrier or a giant Saint Bernard. Which is to say, I fell in love with this establishment instantly. The lodge has a quintessentially New England feel, which makes sense as it was one of the first hotels to pop up in the Killington area in the 1960s. Pictures and trinkets of Saint Bernards cover about every inch of the Lodge, adding to the New England charm. The suites feature balconies with mountain views, walk-through closets, and elegant decoration.
In addition to the dogs, one of my favorite aspects of the lodge is the large, luxurious jacuzzi, where cocktail waitresses will actually bring drinks directly to you. The Saints Pub has a full menu of comfort food and features live music on the weekends.
Although there are a few dogs who live at the Summit Lodge, sadly they do not allow guests to bring their pets.

One must be a genuine dog lover like myself to fully appreciate this hotel. Coming up the winding driveway, sculptures of St. Bernards adorn the roadside and I was greeted with open paws by the local puppy the minute I walked through the front door. The Lodge has a rich history, being the first hotel built in Killington and host to many celebrities, including the infamous Judge Judy. There are two bars on the property, serving down-home comfort food and hosting regular live music on the weekends. Each room has a beautiful view of the mountain, private bath and flat screen television. With a picturesque gazebo outside the back deck and a generously sized function room, this would be the perfect place for any wedding. For recreation, guests can enjoy relaxing in the jacuzzi or one of the two saunas, all while being served a refreshing beverage from the very nice hotel staff.Recommended for:

The Summit Lodge and Resort is my favorite place in Killington. It’s delightfully quirky but also functional, spotlessly clean and luxurious. The Lodge opened in 1960, just a couple years after the ski area was established. The lodge’s 45 rooms are gorgeous, with plush bedding and excellent views over the valley and mountain. Four-poster beds, walk-through closets and rocking chairs in the suite’s attached living room are all welcome features. The building’s location – up a short and twisty driveway from the Killington Road – gives it a nice feeling of seclusion and a bit of elevation for some great views. Saint-Bernard dogs are a big theme of the Summit Lodge, and the day we visited the owners were anxiously awaiting the arrival of a new puppy. St. Bernard-themed memorabilia and décor provides an individual feel and theme throughout the lodge, and the dogs themselves are a friendly presence in the lodge’s lobby and public areas. Free wireless internet is available throughout, and during the summer months the building has air conditioning. There’s a heated outdoor pool where you can swim under the stars or with a view of the wintry mountains, and a separate outdoor summer swimming pool with an adjacent bar. Inside the lodge, a massive circular hot tub allows skiers, snowshoers and hikers to soak their weary muscles. Cocktail service is provided, with servers delivering your drinks orders to you in the tub. Perfect for being totally lazy after a hard day on the mountain.Recommended for:
