Use the map to find this place: the Channa Market is in the area of Delhi known as Karol Bagh. Most cab drivers know where Karol Bagh and the market are, but the hotel is on an unnamed street a few blocks east of Vishnu Mardir Marg, north of Pusa Road. As a hotel, it's mediocre: the hot water is unreliable, the floors a little dusty, and the rooms not cleaned every day--you may have to ask for towels. However, for Delhi, and at around $50/night, it has several advantages. The location is good--about five walkable blocks from the main market which has everything you'll need, and the neighborhood is a lively one that's not run-down. The hotel staff is happy to change your American dollars for Rupees at a good rate, and without charge. It's safe and reasonably secure (the in-room safe in my room didn't work--lock valuables in your suitcase--and if you want to leave sleeping bags or other goods for your return in the lobby, they might be "inspected", but not stolen). The elevator works, not a small thing if you're carrying heavy luggage. Breakfast (not included) is in the basement, a choice between an American or spicy Indian breakfast (there's no kitchen--all food is brought in on order). The staff ranges from great to questionable, so don't be surprised by minor "last-minute" charges you didn't know you had, like 30Rp (about 70 cents) for the bottle of water in your room. Everyone on the street knows this is a tourist hotel, so expect to be surrounded by rickshaw drivers and others wanting your money as soon as you step out the door.
