Here’s something Miami Beach desperately needed—a Kimpton hotel. I’m a fan of Kimptons across the country because they have their own identity but always feel laidback. Plus, they’re super pet-friendly and if you join the Kimpton loyalty program (which is free), you get complimentary WiFi. This Kimpton combines a beachfront location, fun pool scene (including cabanas if you’re feeling fancy) and great cocktail bar, without any of the intimidation that you get at some of its cool neighbors on Collins Avenue. I mean, there are sheep and cow sculptures all over the lobby and out by the pool, so you know the hotel has a sense of humor. The lobby décor is a bit of a mish mash of styles but it still works, and there’s plenty of couch space to chill out, sip a cocktail or check your email. The new restaurant, Lantao Kitchen, serves great small plates inspired by Asian street food, which are ideal for sharing.

Fantastic service, clean rooms, great food.
We were treated very well by the hotel staff, especially Jessica at the front desk and Matthew.
Our room was roomy enough. The pool was great and warm and clean, and access to the beach was great.
The area the hotel is in is perfect for me, as it is close to south beach, but without the crowds and craziness of the farther south area. just right.

I've grown to really love Kimpton hotels, but as far as the unique funkiness this brand usually gives off, it almost feels drowned out here in South Beach. Everything is funky, so what's different? Well, the sheep and cows are a nice touch. Hilarious. Love it! And the grade-A Kimpton rooms and amenities are all what you'd expect. There's also a fantastic Asian kitchen here called Lantao, which is conveniently located by the pool for cocktail service. So, why not more than 3 stars? Well, the pool, which has the potential of being a grand resort-style swimming lounge, is cluttered and abused by the party scene. When I came, it ended up being Gay Pride weekend and some of the biggest pool parties were held right here at this hotel. Great, if that's what you came for. But if you just wanted your own hotel pool to relax and catch some rays - forget it. And, by the way, the decibel level of these parties is outrageous. You can hear them blocks away, so just imagine if you have a pool-facing room...

Not so impressed by their famous pool parties. The crowd is full of yoked guido and plastic body types. The pool is far from being luxurious and the sandy area in the back by the DJ booth feels dirty. VIP restrooms are port-a-potties. If tickets are over $40 featuring a big time DJ, definitely skip it. You can hear the music from the beach adjacent to it.
