I came to Sushi Gen for their lunch sashimi platter for my sister's birthday. It was supposed to be a great deal at $15 during lunch. The wait for a table was insane and we both had plans after lunch so we opted to sit at the sushi bar. I did end up paying more but I don't regret it ...

MOVIE SPOT! You'll recognize their ballroom/meeting room facilities from many films with banquet or awards balls scenes, including THE SOLOIST (starring Robert Downey Jr. and Katherine Keener and Jamie Foxx). The rooms here are small and not very newly renovated, for the price. But, the atmosphere downstairs in the bar area is cool for a drink.

Kyoto Grand offers an average stay for guests visiting and/or doing business in downtown Los Angeles. The Asia influence ascertains the elegance of the hotel, though the setting is rather dated and rigid (as of 2009). The standard room with double twin beds was small and needed upgrade. Internet must be purchased and valet around $20. The website photos are ...

The shiny lobby, bathed in white with orange accents and bright starburst light fixtures, is a hip and cool spot downtown for 20-somethings. Fabulous floral wall treatments and furry touches greet you after passing the café style sidewalk seating. Climb a flight to the elevator to reach the hotel/hostel’s floors with cute rooms (twins or a queen), outfitted with a ...

While I have been inside, I have never stayed here so I can't comment on the quality of the rooms. I give it a high rating because of its historical value. Established in 1880, the Los Angeles Athletic Club was the city's first private club. Its current home, completed in 1912, was designed in the Beaux Arts tradition. The location ...

This is a great little find, as it's cheap, clean and their staff is super friendly. The hotel is very close to Union Station, Chinatown and Downtown so you can see a lot of LA without traveling far. They also offer a complimentary continental breakfast and free wifi. The parking isn't free, but almost at $4 per car!

Great hotel for a black tie event. Last night Hugh Jackman presented an award to Paul Hogan. I call this collage "Aussie beef and dessert" (Jackman could be either entree or a sweet to wrap up a meal)

I really love this boutique hotel located in the heart of Downtown LA. It was recently renovated and has an urban chic feel. It is clean, modern but not so modern that it feels impersonal. The restaurant/bar is full of trendsters but very cool with an easy feel. I can't wait to go back!

The Ritz Carlton at LA Live is everything you'd expect from The Ritz in a pleasantly surprising and refreshed package. No, you won't find the dimly-lit, red-velvet-lined sitting rooms and meticulously polished mahogany that has become synonymous with the chain. Don't worry, it's every bit as classy as you remember, but with a modern, California twist. Fresh wood paneling lines ...

Located smack in the middle of downtown LA, this hotel is central to everything from the convention center to the music center. It’s also attached to a shopping mall anchored by Macy’s. Tourists expect to find shopping downtown and outside of a spattering of boutiques and galleries, there are not a lot of options. On entering the large lobby, guest ...

Starting with the grand piano in the lobby, this tasteful and traditional place conveys a British atmosphere (or perhaps Scottish, in this case) without an ounce of stuffiness. This historic hotel (since 1924) feels classy, with classic furnishings. Not the Ritz Carlton but it’s authentic, clean and cheery. With free Wifi in rooms, free Bally’s Fitness Center admission and an ...

This hotel has a ton of character and history as it was built in 1929. The building was originally apartment units, but for the 1984 Olympics it was converted into a hotel. There is a gym that overlooks the lobby and a bar that doubles as a breakfast nook in the morning. The only downside is its location-- not the ...

Not to be confused with the J.W. Marriott close to the Staple Center downtown, this Marriot has a deluxe feel though dated from a time when downtown real estate was plentiful with a big porte cochere entrance and spacious lobby. Located in the financial district, this place caters to business clientele so weekends are more availabe. The entire space is ...

The Worst Hotel of our whole trip. Should have checked the reviews first but was fooled by the closenes to the LA Rail system not realising this was a 'rough' part of town. The Wilshire Grand seemed to be a conference center first and a hotel second. As the previous reviewer remarked, parking was hell and very expensive, especially because this hotel isn’t really close enough to any sites to walk. The pool deck was cramped and ugly, not exactly a place I wanted to relax. My room was cookie-cutter, and I imagine ...

The name says it all-- as soon as you walk in you get a feel for old Hollywood. The building has lots of character as do the rooms. For the same price as other chain-hotels, this is a great deal. This historic landmark hotel on Hollywood Blvd is directly across the street from Grauman's Chinese Theatre. This hotel is known to be haunted, but my stays here have never resulted in any stories. The staff is very friendly, and the rooms are small but well appointed.
