This hotel has everything you could need or want. Gym and pool? Of course. Sweet craving? Try Fleuri’s Chocoholic Buffet (National Geographic just rated it the #1 place in the world to get your chocolate fix). Wine tasting? Pop into the hotel’s Wine Merchant store. Too much wine? The News Café sells everything from Tylenol to bottled water. Breakfast to go? Grab a cappuccino and croissant at La Boulangerie, a favourite spot with locals. I could go on, but I’ll just say that it’s clear why the Sutton Place has remained a Vancouver institution: it has the amenities of a large hotel, but manages to evoke a sense of European-boutique intimacy.
It’s a welcome retreat from the bustle found just steps away at Robson and Burrard (the city’s busiest pedestrian intersection). If you love shopping, you’ll love Robson Street. Plus, the hotel has a Shopper Program where they’ve paired up with stores like Roots, Murchies Tea, H20+, and New Balance (plus many more) to offer exclusive discounts to hotel guests.Recommended for:

The Sutton Place is one of my favorite places to stay when visiting Vancouver. The location is central yet quiet. The rooms are comfortable and well appointed. Service is professional. As much as I do find myself staying at chains, when possible, I do seek to stay at non mega chained local boutiques.

Sutton Place feels very grown-up and belongs to the exclusive class of hotels where I'd be comfortable staying indoors for a couple of days. That said, the location is hard to beat for downtown Vancouver and since the hotel has partnered with local businesses like Roots, Dayton Boots, and Murchie's Tea and Coffee, there's plenty of reason to stay away from your hotel room for much of the day.
The ground floor of the hotel benefits from a wide building footprint which can give guests several choices of scenery and amenity. Once leaving a large leather wing-back chair in the English-style bar, Gerard, to get back to the main lobby, you have to walk through the breakfast, lunch, and dinner restaurant, Fleuri, then past the concierge room and finally to the front-desk and entry-way. Each of these spaces feels like a separate environment which is a pleasant contrast to some of other hotels that try to meld their lounges with their lobbies. Continuing past the lobby is a snack and sundry shop, a large gym, Vida spa, and finally that pool, deck, and hot tub.
The decor throughout the hotel is classic European with marble lobby floors and countertops and comfortable classic furniture. The rooms are comfortable and spacious and there are several styles to choose from. One side of the hotel even has apartments to rent for guests that plan to stay longer and would like extra storage.
I've never tried it but I'm told that Fleuri is notorious for their chocaholic buffet on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. I know, it sounds good. I definitely plan on heading back to Sutton, if only for that.
