Swensen's Ice Cream

1999 Hyde St
13 reviews

Great ice cream! I went on a foggy night, and it was still doing a brisk business. The cookies and cream was delicious, with plenty of cookies in it. The chew chocolate was tasty as well. I can only imagine a line out the door on a warm day.

Here's a park I haven't visited until my sixth year in San Francisco. Located at the top of Lombard, across the street from the famous curvy section, George Sterling Memorial Park features a big tennis court and lots of places for picnicking with views of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Real foods is a healthy alternative to Trader Joes or Whole Foods located in Russian Hill. The prices are very similar to Whole Foods, and most of their produce is local and organic.

Great beer, superb bartenders, reasonable prices. This is a new spot opened by the people behind Cervecería de MateVeza in the Mission. The concept is great beer, Yerba Mate and delicious empanadas (from El Porteño). The place is small so it can fill up, but it's rad! They do a number of special beers at any given moment. The night ...

Why is this not the most famous spot in all San Francisco? It's right by the wharf and full of whimsy. Kids today with their Street Fighters and QBerts could learn a thing or two from these wooden video games.

Sometimes a tourist trap is there for a reason. The history alone is great, but the square is now home to cute shops and restaurants. A lovely way to spend a few hours!

My favorite of the large theatres in San Francisco. Lovely inside and out. If felt like I saw Phantom of the Opera from virtually every location and each seat was fantastic. Looking forward to my next visit.

Grace Cathedral is the Episcopalian seat of the bishop of the California. It sits perched atop Nob Hill across from a nice old fashioned park. If you want to see French Gothic in San Francisco do visit. There is now a poorly considered grand staircase along the front, where there used be a very fine limestone building as there were ...

This well known landmark is the tallest skyscaper in the San Francisco skyline. The Pyramid Center houses two office buildings. In addition to offices, the more famous highrise contains a visitor center/gift shop (opened just a year ago) on the 48th floor & a cloistered Redwood Park with redwood trees, fountains, benches & a stage. The beacon on top of ...

I love this haberdashery. I buy all my hats here — for beach, vintage flair and even my beanie. Just walking through the store is like walking through an homage to timelessness, with a nod to the beautiful past that inspired them. You can buy ready-to-wear hats or get one custom designed and made. And this is the place, if ...

I've walked by the San Francisco Fountain for years. I've even sat for hours on the steps next to it. But it wasn't until recently that I discovered what it was (thanks to a Gogobot trip recommendation). The San Francisco Fountain features a number of Bay Area monuments carved into its side. From the Palace of Fine Arts to a ...

Love this theater! It's so classic and historic, especially when The Phantom of the Opera plays there, as the building and interior very much resembles the musical itself a la the 1880s. The stage is smaller but it's perfect for the Phantom!

You can find a large number of Scottish imports at William Glen & Son, however the true shining virtue is the shop's Scotch collection. Head straight to the back and you'll find pretty much every type of sweet booze you could possibly want, including whiskies from around the world (e.g., Yamazaki). Staff are really friendly and cool.
