Swensen's Ice Cream

Great ice cream! I went on a foggy night, and it was still doing a brisk business. The cookies and cream was delicious, with plenty of cookies in it. The chew chocolate was tasty as well. I can only imagine a line out the door on a warm day.

Just downhill from the va-va-va-voom strip clubs in North Beach, this fiercely independent bookstore got its start back in the days of the Beat poets and writers like Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac. Co-founded by Lawrence Ferlinghetti in the early 1950s, it leapt to landmark status after publishing Ginsberg's "Howl," which resulted in an obscenity trial. Today, it's great to ...

One of the best "touristy" thing to do. The history of arcade games (and other coin op wonders) is free to look at, but caveat emptor! A lot of the devices are underwhelming to us 21st century people.

A historic site in the Marina district in San Francisco, Fort Mason is not only a great tourist attraction for those who like history, sight-seeing, and souvenir shopping, but it's also a great place where large events are held, such as the Chocolate Festival and Halloween parties. You can't expect much from a free museum, but the Cable Car Museum breaks any such expectations. Still functioning as the central cable center for the city's most beloved transportation system, it also provides a lesson on the history of how it all came about. This museum is definitely worth a hike up the hill.

Love this theater! It's so classic and historic, especially when The Phantom of the Opera plays there, as the building and interior very much resembles the musical itself a la the 1880s. The stage is smaller but it's perfect for the Phantom!

Away from the family crowds on Fisherman's Wharf, this quieter historical pier has a maritime museum of outdoor boats to poke around. An equally good reason to step out onto the pier is for the San Francisco Bay views, sweeping from the bridge over to Alcatraz Island. Beautiful panorama!

For me, Yelp is a lot about meeting people, having good conversations, and making new friends. And so it was the case last night as Rene C. and I met for drinks before the Gogobot Launch Event. We talked about family, our work, other Yelpers, and subsequently agreed to meeting for dinner soon with our wives. As for Tunnel Top, ...
