Excellent! - 90% of guests recommend

I'm not big on my chain hotels, but the Intercon in Sydney scores for its location and some pretty decent service too. Although you'll pay a premium for it, make sure you bag a harbour view room. What's the point in staying here, otherwise?

    The Darling

    The Darling

    4.5

Excellent! - 90% of guests recommend

If cards, dice and flashing neon lights are the way you like to roll then roll on up to the Darling hotel. The Star Casino next door is no Las Vegas but when you’ve got Sydney on your doorstep you don’t need it to be. I admit that I couldn’t help feeling like a child in a theme park in ...

    The Observatory Hotel

    The Observatory Hotel

    Hotel Class:
    4
    3 reviews

The façade of the Observatory hotel looks like a 90s build from The Netherlands, complete with flower boxes. It sits on a peaceful terrace-lined street which is great for a sound sleep, but it’s somewhat awkwardly wedged between The Rocks and Darling Harbour. On the inside the hotel transforms into a luxury heritage-style hideaway, which does a particularly good job ...

    Sheraton on the Park

    Sheraton on the Park

    Hotel Class:
    4.5
    8 reviews
Excellent! - 90% of guests recommend

The Sheraton, situated on the western edge of Hyde Park with a prime CBD location, goes for the classic big-city luxury-hotel experience, and on a whole succeeds admirably. The lobby explodes with marble and plush carpets and heaps of polished brass, the rooms are all of lovely 5-star standard (think bathrooms in black marble and dark wood), and the parkside ...

    Westin Sydney

    Westin Sydney

    Hotel Class:

    9 reviews
Excellent! - 90% of guests recommend

I loved the Westin, with its awesome location at One Martin Place, from the moment I first walked into the lobby. Glassed in by a towering high ceiling, the lobby interior encloses a huge square between the newer tower section of the hotel and the lovely heritage sandstone facade next door, with the nifty Mosaic restaurant giving a great view ...

    Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney

    Hotel Class:
    4.5
    9 reviews
Excellent! - 88% of guests recommend

The single poshest hotel in the Rocks, the design sensibility of the luxe Shangri-La brand shows throughout this hotel. I love the touches of dark wood and the cherry-blossoms pattern on the carpets, and the views from the higher floors are spectacular. The 5-star restaurant, Altitude, is only open for dinner, but it's a great place to go for a ...

BLUE Sydney - A Taj Hotel

BLUE Sydney - A Taj Hotel

    Hotel Class:
    4
    6 reviews
Excellent! - 87% of guests recommend

Probably my favourite hotel in Sydney overall, winning top marks for its awesome location in a rehabbed heritage warehouse on the waterfront, midway between the Royal Botanic Gardens and the leafy heights of Potts Point. While the decor in the rooms is a bit understated for my taste, they ARE certainly posh, comfortable, and well-appointed, with windows that open out ...

I loved this hotel! From the moment I walked in the door and met the receptionist (who was from my hometown), I knew I was in the right place! This hotel is very upscale. It has a very nice restaurant on the first floor where I had breakfast every morning. The piklets (like pancakes) were wonderful! If you don't mind ...

    Simpsons of Potts Point Hotel

    4.5
    3 reviews
Excellent! - 93% of guests recommend

So over-the-top with old-timey luxury that it borders on self-parody, the thoroughly lovely Simpsons of Potts Point is a virtually perfect heritage guesthouse. A bit out of the way in the far end of Potts Point, it's a hell of hike back up the steps from the harbour, and an equally long (if less exhausting) walk to the nearest train ...

    Sofitel Sydney Wentworth

    Hotel Class:
    4
    4 reviews
Very Good! - 84% of guests recommend

The Sofitel goes for understated luxury and, on a whole, succeeds. A short walk from Circular Quay in the northern CBD, the staff here are unfailingly professional and service is crisp. The Sofitel has good value city-view rooms, or splashier terrace-view rooms, all with deliciously soft king beds, plush beige decor, and flat-screen TVs. Bathrooms are lovely with polished chrome ...

    Fraser Suites Sydney

    Hotel Class:

Very Good! - 84% of guests recommend

The Sydney incarnation of the luxury Fraser Suites chain will appeal especially to corporate and business travellers who want to stay in style in Sydney's CBD. Built for professionals, the large-sized suites have tons of taste and a modern decor, and everything about the hotel is crisp and polished (if occasionally also seeming a little sterile). Rooms have fantastic city ...

    Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel Sydney

    Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel Sydney

    Hotel Class:
    3.5
    3 reviews
Excellent! - 90% of guests recommend

The luxury arm of the global Radisson brand, I really feel like the Radisson Blu (with its western CBD location) should be more exciting. Everything is done to a top standard, from the gleaming lobby to the fine gym to the polished restaurant to the continually on-the-bounce staff. But: something about the Blu still leaves me cold. Although all the ...

    Grace Hotel Sydney

    Hotel Class:
    4.5
    4 reviews
Fair - 71% of guests recommend

The Grace Hotel lobby seems like something a little out of Mad Men, with a kind of bygone classiness and polish that's immediately appealing. The building is a heritage site and it shows, and the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff are immediately noticed and appreciated. The rooms were nice, with little touches of character like coffee-table books and a ...

Beautiful and modern property located right in the middle of all types of action: food, shop, tourist, and non tourist. The rooms are quite spacious and the higher floor ones have fantastic views of the city and if on the right side, the Sydney tower is almost within grasp. The decor is very chic and modern. Clean and comfortable. There ...

    Quay West Suites Sydney

    Quay West Suites Sydney

    Hotel Class:
    3.5
    3 reviews
Excellent! - 89% of guests recommend

Upon first entering the lobby of the Quay West Suites, nothing was particularly striking or inviting. Classical music, low ceilings and not much natural light makes it feel more like the reception of a corporate office block. Unfortunately, the mezzanine restaurant and bar are equally as lacking in light and inspiration. However, once you escape up the lifts to the ...
