    Sydney Harbour Bridge

    96 reviews

Also known as the Coathanger Bridge, the Sydney Harbour Bridge is almost as iconic as the Opera House. It graces the harbor with its presence and dazzles when lit up at night. You can climb to the top of the bridge with a tour group and guide for an astronomical fee (something like $300). My feeling: admire it from land.

Even in winter I absolutely loved Bondi beach and the surrounding area. it was well worth the effort even though it was a short visit to the area.

    Manly Beach

    66 reviews

Manly is a super nice beach not too far away from Sydney, a short ferry ride away. I liked it more than Bondi Beach. There is a little pedestrian street with shops and restaurants. It feels a bit more suburban than Bondi, really good for families.

    Darling Harbour & Haymarket

    65 reviews

Good place to bring your family if you have kids. Shops and restaurants, lots of outdoor stuff. But better for summer and usually pretty busy. Sometimes they have fire works shows here for occasions like Australia Day, so check their website before you go.

    Taronga Zoo

    56 reviews

Taronga Zoo is always a popular choice for children - depending on their age. Taking the ferry to the zoo from Circular Quay is a great option as you get to enjoy Sydney Harbour whilst on the ferry!

    The Rocks

    38 reviews

Great area for exploring historic downtown. There's a path here that leads up to the Harbour Bridge which lets you get great views of Sydney harbour without doing the harbour bridge climb.

    Sydney Aquarium

    39 reviews

Sydney Aquarium is decent enough but a bit overpriced for the crowded and baby-stroller-ridden experience you'll have. They really need a place for families to store all of the stuff that they won't use during the couple of hours they'll spend here. You can get discount tickets to visit two or more of the Sydney attractions, so that takes the ...

    Royal Botanic Gardens

    33 reviews

These expansive grounds are found a short walk away from the opera house. Despite being in the middle of the city, it is still quite possible to find areas where there is nobody else around and seating (benches) are available. One can easily spend more than an hour just walking around the park and not see anything more than once.

    Bondi to Bronte Walk

    25 reviews

A really beautiful walk, easy to do with kids in tow. Not very much shade, so on a sunny day it can be hot.

A very expensive and very touristy way to see the views of the harbour. Unfortunately, no cameras of any kind are allowed and you will pay dearly for the "official" snapshots of the climb. Recommendation is to do the climb at night or at sunset so that you can see the harbour and buildings light up, though this will most ...

More of a local beach. Let Travis hang at Bondi. The locals head over to Tamarama for surf and sun.

Kings Cross has come a long way since I arrived in Sydney in 1996 but still maintains a bit of grit. Good for late night shenanigans.
