So I heard this place had awesome tacos... and then I learned it was a bit fishy... not being a fan of the swimming grubs so much I still decided to try this place out. I guess their forte really is da wharf special since the turf options were nothing special at all.
So I rolled into this joint and quickly noted its an old school spot. They have extremely limited seating inside, a little bit outside, but is mainly a to go location. In fact the tables and chairs appear to be old catering or restaurant surplus. Regardless of the pure hole in the wall ambience this place has a reputation and a short line on the inside of those waiting for grub or to order.
Pro Tip: No AmEx here =\
So if you are not getting the fish, you have a bunch of regular selections for tacos at $1.89. There is also the option of a potato taco for $1.25 or 3 for some discounted rate (that I cant recall). I ended up getting 3 tacos for dinner.
Pro Tip #2: The car wash gets business even after dark so don’t park in a stall or next to it, its asking for trouble even if the place shares the same parking lot…
So I ended up with an Al Pastor, Pollo, and Potato taco. The Pastor was decent, I could taste some pineapple nibbles diced into the meat as well. The Pollo was also as average as can be. Both of these tacos left a lot of room to get better, especially at their price point. Then there was the Potato taco. It was my first time having a potato taco and it was delicious. It is basically a potato mash shoved into a tortilla and then fried. After removing it from the fryer, they lay it on its side sprinkle cheese cabbage and a white sauce over it. *YUM* but mega carb overload =(
This place has some good and bad stuff, but since I am not into the mariscos, I couldn’t try their purportedly best, albeit priciest, tacos. Overall it seems like a nice little taco joint. However it is out of my way as I am almost never in this part of town.
