So you want to go a Taqueria that you could actually take a date to and not be embarrassed that it is a super hole in the wall? Well this place fits the bill from an ambience point of view. But it should have that when they had the space but hadn’t opened the place for over a year! O_O yeah I was shocked when they actually did open.
This place has some absolutely awesome décor. The kitchen appears to be spic and span. They have a little wheeled cart that doubles as a salsa station where you can serve up your own salsa, cilantro, onions, etc. Essentially you get the tortilla and the meat for your tacos and anything you want to add to the side of your burrito, you can garnish yourself. I believe that this will be hard to clean in the long run but we shall see.
Pro Tip: They do not have fountain drinks here, only bottled/canned beverages.
The staff and owner are very friendly and like to say hello. The bathroom, floors, tables, etc are all clean and definitely up to if not beyond code requirements. They have regular booths a couple of tables with chairs and two pub style tables. I was surprised that the pub table we ate at was wobbly =\ I would have thought that they would have adjusted all of the tables properly when they had over a years worth of set up time.
Now the downfall and savior! The meat has no specific taste. They were practically interchangeable. The al pastor was indistinguishable from the carne asada. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh… anything but that is preferable on the menu… I was highly disappointed that all of the meats tasted identical. However coming in to save the day was the salsa. They simply have some of the best salsas that I have ever had at a taqueria in my life. It was a bright ray of sunshine on an otherwise drab and dreary taco.
In the end I doubt that I will go back as the tacos were definitely subpar, even though the staff salsa and décor were outstanding.
