After dining at the Talula’s Garden I knew that I got new favorite restaurant in Philly. I wish I could give more than 5 stars to this place – for food, service, menu selections, ambiance… Yes, it’s kind of expensive but well worth it. The owner’s love for artisan cheese translates into fantastic selection offered as several collections with intriguing names like Cheeses with Status, Rare and Ridiculous Cheese. The cheese is served on a slate board and the accompaniments include chutneys, candied nuts, honey, fresh and dried fruit. Since we took our time reading the menu, our waiter suggested ordering some cheese to start. We picked his favorite selection without thinking too much about it. But about 10 minutes later we read that it mostly includes goat cheese which I don’t eat. We were about to change our order to a different selection when he brought the cheese. With embarrassment, we told him about our problem with goat cheese. Without hesitation he said he’ll switch to another selection, assuring us that this is not a problem. This alone got a very high checkpoint on our list. Even though we could’ve ordered just entrees after the cheese plate, we wanted to try some appetizers. We ordered Mushroom Pate and Smoked Sturgeon – both were excellent and beautifully presented. Our entrees were Seared Scallops and Roasted Hangar Steak, plus we got a side of Roasted Mushrooms. We enjoyed every bite. Overall, we had a fantastic experience; everything felt right and tasted delicious. I can’t wait to go back.
