The atmosphere is the real draw here, though for a trendy restaurant, the food is very good.

Much more relaxed than the stuffier midtown mother ship. Staff are friendly. Clothing skews a bit younger / more contemporary. A pleasant shopping experience in a much more manageable small store format.

This huge toy store has been featured in several films, but perhaps the most memorable is "Big" in which Tom Hanks plays a child in an adult's body, ready to mess around and have some fun in NYC.

Many young girls fall in love with NYC upon watching the Audrey Hepburn film "Breakfast at Tiffany's" Though this iconic jewelry store doesn't feature a restaurant or any type of early morning meal, plenty of women (and men) are seen posing outside the window just like Hepburn herself.

Women's shoe heaven. I find the men's store to be a little too tired and conservative. Unless you are suiting up for Wall Street or a polo match, the boys will do better at Barney's or Saks.

Natural perfumes like lavender, jasmine, and ginger float in the air at this soap boutique’s locations around Manhattan. Duck into one when you start to worry that maybe that smell is you. Bonus: they give out free samples of soap so you can keep a little pick me up with you always.

There isn't a nicer or more upscale hair salon in heaven. This hidden sanctuary to Manhattan's VIPs is over the top. Pricey but a true indulgence and a very Manhattan experience. Used to be the Chanel No. 5 studio. In addition to hair, the salon sells a well-curated selection of accessories and has a visiting aesthetician / plastic surgeon.

Very cool Hell's Kitchen option. Much classier than many of the Chelsea / East Village options. The decor is what you would expect given the name -- exposed brick, very urban, and edgy.

One of my favorite gay bars in New York. Definitely classier than most. A good place to go for a civilized night out with friends. The anti-Splash.

Great little gay bar in the theater district with an excellent choice of country music playing over the loudspeakers. Now if they would just stop showing that abysmal "Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" movie on the TVs for atmosphere. The bartenders are friendly, and when the mood strikes them they will climb up on the bar for some boot-stomping dancing ...

Vlada Lounge forever redefines what a "hip" bar should look like for me. They prominently feature a varied selection of infused vodkas from citrus to gourd. Parallel rows of blue lights run cross-counter, outlining frosted ice within. I don't care how old you are; the ice will call to you, and it will somehow find its way into another person's ...

Thumbs up to Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux for designing this masterpiece. Central Park was built to relieve the pressures of day to day existence in the crowded and dirty NY of the mid 19th century. It was also intended to be a place where people from all walks of life could mingle and integrate. Though it has taken ...
