Description

Sicily's Taormina looks like the city cross between an Italian fairy tale and a James Bond movie. Perched on a cliff above two bays with world-famous beaches, the ancient city has become a tourist magnet. Throngs of well-to-do bikini- and Speedo-clad travelers flock here in the summer, where the beaches are second-to-none in Italy. Laze on any one of the local beaches -- Giardini Naxos or Mazzeo Taormina -- or, better yet, take a cable car to tiny Isola Bella. On top of the cliffside, you'll find the charming town, with palazzos dating back to the 16th century and plenty of modern clothing and jewelry boutiques. The Teatro Greco (Greek Theatre) is a lovely enough Greek ruin, but the backdrop of the setting Sicily sun and Mediterranean sea makes it absolutely breathtaking.
