Taos

26 reviews

Taos is great for the local art, ceramics, and amazing pueblo buildings. Also has terrific skiing in years where it gets enough snow. Playground near Santa Fe.

We were only able to ski for a day, but Taos was perfect. Taos Ski Valley has just the right amount of blues and blacks.

    Arroyo Seco

Arroyo Seco is a small village surrounded by farmland and mountains. The village itself is so cute and has so much to offer: local restaurants, local grocers, small vacation and room rentals, and even a yoga studio. We loved the peace and quiet that our little house and the surrounding farmlands had to offer.

Chimayo is a tiny village, home to the famed Santuario and Ranch Chimayo as well as several well known weaving studios and other artists. For those in the know, it is also the home of world famous Chimayo chile peppers. Something about the local soil offers healing properties AND supports the growth of these wonderful and unique chiles.

Worth the hour drive from Santa Fe. We recommend doing a private soak if you prefer clothing-optional and quiet. Even though signs are posted asking patrons to be quiet, it can still become quite a scene.

The Village of Truchas is along the High Road to Taos. They have an insular reputation and I've been happy to just pass through over the years. The local Penitentes culture is also fascinating to read up about.
