Time to get your tacos or burritos or tostadas or whatever kinda mexican grub you wanna eat today and you see this joint tucked into the nether reaches of a lil strip mall with all kinds of crazy oddball chit in it. Well this is just part of the eclectic collection of oddities… Even more so when you walk in and realize the cook/order taker speaks absolutely no English… time to switch to the el spanglisho and try and make the few words you know relevant. Very tough differentiating grilled vs raw onions!
None the less I was a brave soul to enter this corner of the lil outdoor strip mall. Nothing seemed to be in English and I may have been the only white dude around. So I order my tacos, and hope she gets the onion thing right. I cant eat raw onions for some reason they just make me queasy. But with a huge tray of caramelized delicious onions in front of me, I think I can get it understood what I want!
Pro Tip: Nothing is cooked to order, this is the Mexican version of dollar Chinese… its all steam tray style eats, except for the tortillas.
Overall taste was bleh… The Asada and pollo were tasteless. Very bland to the point of wondering if cardboard might be a bit tastier. Then I bit into the generic decent average taste of the Al Pastor and at least knew my tongue wasn’t broken. Then again it wasn’t very happy yet.
So I tried a taste of the homemade green sauce and again my tongue started to threaten to leave me. *SMH* poor tongue just wanted some flavor or something. So I tasted the red sauce and suddenly a warm glow spread throughout my mouth. What did I detect? Was it something strange? Yes for this place. Was it something complex? You bet your bibby it was. Was it something that had FLAVOR? OHHH YEAH finally something good!!! And their red sauce has some spiciness AND taste too!!! WOO WOO!!! So on top of that the caramelized onions were super tasty as well.
But seriously would I go someone for one thing that is average nothing else is close to average? So essentially would I go here just for the kick-azz red sauce? Nope. So I wont be back. Cest la vie… I am happy to eat other better food… but the red sauce was a tasty treat here…
