If I lived in SF, I would gain 10 lbs. from my debilitating addiction to Tartine's morning buns. If you're within walking range of this bakery, go. Wait in line if you have to -- it's so worth it. Other items I like: the bread pudding and the almond croissants.

Amazing pastries! Everything is great! My favorite is their Passion Fruit Lime Bavarian Rectangle. It is so light but full of flavor. It is a perfect place for afternoon tea, well, if you can find yourself a seat that is. There is always a line outside the door whether it is mid-morning or late afternoon. However, it is well worth the wait.

Are you willing to stand in line, not get a table possibly and maybe watch them run out of what you want to order just before you reach the cash register? Then Tartine Bakery is for you. It's worth it if you're a baked good addict or aspiring pastry chef (they've already published two cookbooks, you know) and just want to be amazed at the technique and taste. The pound cake - how do they get it so springy and moist? The seasonal bread pudding - I think there was a half-pound of fresh cranberries on mine. Awesome!

While the lines at this Mission District bakery can be an hour long, that hardly detours the fans clamoring to try Chad Robertson and Elisabeth Prueitt’s pastries. Inspired by time spent in France, the couple uses only organic ingredients in desserts like a shortbread cookie with kamut, an ancient grain, and local honey. Because the bakery makes small batches throughout the day, Tartine’s doughy croissants laminated in butter can often be enjoyed just out of the oven. Now that’s worth waiting for.
Must-Try Item: Tres Leches Cake made with organic goat’s milk cooked down to a caramel, coconut milk, Bavarian cream, and a puff pastry base.

Wait in line in the late afternoon for their fresh out of the oven bread. It will set you back almost $10, but it will be the best load of local, healthy bread you've ever had.

Tartine is one of the best bakeries in San Francisco, serving up mind-blowing pastries, tarts and sandwiches. The coffee is excellent and the atmosphere is casual and cool. Unfortunately, because it is so good there is virtually always a 30 minute wait to place your order. If you are one who doesn't mind waiting 30 minutes, you will love this place. What is worse, they do run out of stuff, so check on supplies before committing to the line - last time we were there we were really looking forward to the banana cream tart, only to find out after 30 mins that they were sold out. We had the almond tart with berries. This was also good, but probably not worth such a wait...
